Innstreamer Setup

First time with an Innstreamer and the documentation seems written for people with a little more IT Sense than I currently possess. The goal is an mp3 stream that will be accessed from my static IP address via winamp or other players on the web. No Shoutcast or anything...it will be fed directly from here to a very limited number of "there's".

First question : My ISP is fed to a Switch...I wish to feed the Instreamer via the Switch with no router involved. Will this work? There is a router fed from the switch but it's DMZ port is spoken for and I want to get around the port forwarding variable in this case. Plus, one less thing to fail. So please, let's make this work without a router in the path if at all possible.

Second question : In detail, what all fields do I need to fill in and with what info on the Streaming tab? For the examples, assume that my static IP address is 111.22.33.44 and the port I'll be using is 1234. The winamp or other client would stream 111.22.33.44:1234/xstream .

I've been in radio engineering for 45 years but this IT stuff is like black magic...until someone shows me how it works and then I get it.

Thanks much!

How many static IP's did you get from your ISP? If the Instreamer is going to sit outside the router/firewall, then you need more than one static IP. Usually, if it's cable or DSL, they give you 5 of them in a range, say from 111.222.333.81-86 plus one for the gateway.

If not, you're better off port forwarding. It's very easy to set up in most routers, unless you have some high end Cisco gear.

I think it will only stream to the first that connects on that particular port.
To do multiple conections, you need to have diferent ports, like 1234, 1235, 1236, 1237, 1238, 1239 , only six allowed.
that is, setup multiple Internet Radio, no IP , only ports.

It's wireless internet and when I plug a router into it, it always goes to the same IP address, so it must be 1 one static IP address. If I were using a router, I'd assume that the multiple streams would be using multiple ports on the same static IP. The router has a Site Sentinel 16 remote control attached to it...the IT guy who set it up finally gave up and set the router to DMZ after being unsuccessful with the port forwarding. But let me assume for a moment that doing port forwarding through the router is simpler. Please tell me what fields I need to populate with what numbers on the Innstreamer Streaming Tab to get the result I outlined in my original post. I'm willing to give that a shot. Without knowing what to enter in those fields, I'm stuck at the starting gate.

You set the ports that you want to use... they can be anything, as long as another device isn't using them. I usually start with the frequency of the station I'm using it for... such as 1260 or 9990 or similar. Then I forward those ports in the router. You would enter in the port forwarding screen:

Port 1260 (forwards to) 192.168.1.xx (internal IP of your Instreamer).
Port 1261 (forwards to) 192.168.1.xx (internal IP of your Instreamer).

And so on. What brand/model of router are you using?

Wireless is most likely one static IP. You are correct in that multiple ports use the same address.

D Link DI-624 router. When plugged into the router at 192.168.1.101:1955/xstream, I hear the stream fine via winamp. But when I substitute the static IP address for 192.168.1.101, nothing. It says connecting for maybe 20 seconds and then times out. There's a Firewall and a Virtual Server page which I've tried various combinations of entries with, all to no avail. I'm very close to the finish line but still not there.

My IT wizard got me fixed up...I had some firewall settings backward. Thanks for the input!

If you are using BRTP, you don't need to have more than one port. If you port forward port 3030 all of the incoming connections will connect to port 3030. BRTP mode will connect up to 32 Exstreamers to 1 Instreamer on one port. I have setup a bunch of this type of setup for sending football games to multiple stations, etc. Just use the BRTP and set the "Stream To" IP address as 0.0.0.0. Set the port (3030) and then port forward that in your router.

Set your audio setting to MP3 and start with a lower quality. Then, once you have a working connection, bump up the quality as high as you can reliably go.

You'll aim ALL of your receiver boxes to your Instreamers EXTERNAL IP address (i.e. 111.222.33.44:3030) and they should connect right up.
