Inovonics 730 RDS Question

Our Inovonics 730 RDS is at the transmitter site. At the studio, we log on the internet to connect to our transmiiter site to make any manual changes for weather updates or breaking news. However I've been told you can't change the default (Station ID) setting that appears during commercials from a remote location. I am referring to the default station ID that is displayed when anything plays other than music. I'm told we would have to be at the transmitter site where the actual unit is located to change this setting. Is this true, or can it be changed from a remote location over the Internet? It would be great to be able to change the default setting from the station - that way important/emergency info could be displayed on every commercial break if needed.
 
Yes, you can change the default RT+ message remotely using the Inovonics RDS Encoder application (I'm using version 3.4) from the Tools -> RT+ and Defaults screen. You can edit both the RT and RT+ fields from this screen.
 
I'm not seeing the station ID / Slogan that was put in the default setting. Again - the default ID was put it at the transmitter. I'm trying to change it by logging on remotely. I go to tools, RT+ and Defaults screen but I don't see the station slogan that is in the default. If I don't see that, I can't change anything. The manual is not helpful. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
 
It sounds like you (or whoever told you this) are confused; going to the site will not help you from what you are saying.

If there is a default message that displays "when anything plays other than music," then that message is not set in the Inovonics unit at all. Those units have the default messages (which you've seen on the "RT+ and Defaults" screen) for what to display after a certain period without any updated data, but they do not watch for specific types of material to play or not play.

You probably have some other middleware like TRE or CSL which is updating your "Now Playing" information, and it is that software which is responsible for determining whether or not an event is music. So, that is where the "default ID" you are looking for has been set.
