Inovonics broadcast

Just had a problem with our "Omega" digital audio processor a few days ago...got RMA from them ( Inovonics) and sent in for repair. Got notice today that it was repaired and shipped, and the bill was a WHOPPING $135 including return shipping!
Can you believe that? The reason I am a big fan of their products, and if you want to speak to the "man". no problem. Come on fellows...these guys are on you side. Give them a spin. ( I normally do not endorse products, but when you see outstanding support, someone needs to acknowledge) JBI

I have a couple of stations using their "budget" processing and they have been perfectly happy with them. In fact, they have never had a need to contact support as the darn things just keep on pluggin' away.

How does the Omega peform? I tinkered and listened to one a few years back at NAB, but never found one in the field anywhere.

Sorry, should have been "perform." :) You can't edit here anymore!

WCIB/WCOD on Cape Cod use them.
WRZE used to when they were CHR.

WCIB sounds pretty good too with it.

This is not english class. be it "pre" or "per" I think we are talking about the same thing...but thanks and lets give some of the "lesser" suppliers their due ... All the best to all on this board. JBI

Inovonics has great service. We once had a broken fuse holder in a unit, several years old, borrowed from another station. They overnighted us a spare fuse holder, free.

Had one for a spell. Much better after the AGC's were upgraded to RMS respoinding rather than peak. Thought it could sound too pumpy at times. It reminds me of a very rough around the edges Breakaway. There is some of that sound in there.

I contract for a chain that has a few of the Omegas...and after putting one on the bench for a couple weeks & tweaking it, I was VERY pleased with the box. However, they are prone to failure...usually outputting a high pitched squeal or hiss (this is bad as this chain uses a silence sense to detect off air conditions & the noise tells the silence sensor that all is well). The chain has stopped repairing them, so as each of my Omegas dies, an Optimod 5300 goes in it's place. I have 3 left in operation & have lost 2 in the past couple years. If you got one fixed for $135, you did very well. Curious to know what it's failure mode was.

Just curious as to what the point of failure is in the box. Is it an A/D D/A converter issue or something else. The ones I've heard on the air, I've liked a lot. The mids were very clear and nice bass.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but these are the PC based boxes with the same algorithm as MBL4?

I had an Inovonics modulation monitor that finally needed a repair after 10 years. Don't remember the bill amount, but remember they turned it quickly and affordably.
