We're running the older version. It works fine. The new version has a USB port which would make programming a lot easier. The old version required a RS-232 connection, using your computer as a terminal. That isn't very user friendly for doing frequent updates. The new version addresses that.

Other than the wall-wart power supply, there isn't much to not like.

Yes the USB version works great. I have wisp's at several sites. (and a connection) With a computer connected I can update any settings with it connected to the computer at the transmitter sites from anywhere.

Would second this. We have it on our classic rock--bare-bones installation for a new station with a 2.5 H Harris driven by a Continental 802A exciter. Our satellite provider doesn't have song/title yet, but the transmitter site is 25 miles away anyway, so it's just as easy to program this box & haul it up to the transmitter.

The 702 must sample the composite audio to lock the 57 khz subcarrier to the 19 khz pilot--we just "t" the feed out of the 8100. Then the subcarrier is fed into the exciter.

The newer version also allows the rotation of 8 different "messages" (8 characters each); and, as noted, programs through a USB connection into non-volatile memory.

I've been very pleased with the results of the Inovonics 702 RDS Encoder. Two of my non-commercial college stations (WSHL-FM/Easton, MA and WBIM-FM/Bridgewater, MA) have been using the RDS units with some very good results for the past three years. You can't beat it for the price. Even my own 10 watter (WXRB-FM/Dudley, MA) should be running RDS by this summer. For about $400, you can't go wrong.

Great! Thanks for all the responses. I was quoted just under $400 for this unit, looks like a no brainer to me. We'll order one this week.

Thanks again.

I like mine as well, I have had it on for about a month now and have had no problem. Just hook the RDS in to the second output of your processor or use a BNC "T" and the output feeds an empty SCA input. Remember, If you have a Harris MS or MX exciter, make sure you have the wideband jumper in your SCA 1 Or 2 port or you will not get a signal thru.
