(b) allaccess.com, is unlisted with camden,sc. market size,
but about apporximately how many can hear the station..
(day) at any given time ?

(c)
*ONly Curious* Not a serious offer, but is 350K,the
asking price for Camden SC. espn-1130AM-Radio
worth it ?
It is a link from broadcaststations4sale.com

(COLUMBIA MARKET – ESPN RADIO 1130...licensed to Camden, SC, and pulls business out of Sumter and NE Columbia. Includes studio building, tower, and equipment. Under a 2000 construction permit that expired in 2002, station could be moved to Elgin and put a city-grade signal over Columbia. Asking $350,000.
Call Ted Gray at (xxx) xxx-9133for more details.)

(d) is that proposed move (above) make it more worth while..?

is what this board is for to talk/discuss "every thing radio"

I hope some one can provide some info....

I'm not sure how it actually sounds on the air, but the coverage map seems to show that it covers Kershaw county well, but not much else. The county has just over 55,000 people, and four licensed stations. There's an AM/FM combo in Camden that really owns the market. I wouldn't even dream of trying to compete with him.

As for a move-in to Columbia, it would probably take a directional array and plenty of money to build. They have a current CP, but it looks to be for a tower change, not a real move of any size.

I do have some thoughs on the value, but they wouldn't be appropriate to discuss in 'public'. If you want to chat about it, drop me an [email protected]

What is the fourth radio station in Kershaw County? I know of 1130 and 1590/102.7, but that is it as far as I know. Kershaw County is kind of a radio oddity in SC because it is not so well served by stations from neighboring metro areas. WNOK/WCOS-FM/WWDM have good signals there (Though WNOK does not do well in the northern part of the county, but no one lives there). But that is it. All the other little Columbia class As don't make it over the ridge at the county line. Elgin is a very fast growing area, quickly becoming a major suburb of Columbia, but still served only by the three stations listed above, and 102.7. I doubt the Camden AMs cover the Elgin area very well, considering the horrible ground conductivity in the area. Probably, Elgin will be the most populous area in the county within the next 10 years beatng out Camden, which is growing hardly at all. It might work to move 1130 to Elgin and super focus it on Elgin....

WOW!!! Little ole' Camden being talked about on RI :)... As far as 1130 goes unless somebody has money to spend 350K may be a bit high, but that is the name of the game in the world of buying and selling... When GHB owned what was WAME now WQIS everything was in poor shape everything from the transmitter, tower, building, etc etc etc... 1130 has a good solid signal throughout the whole county... When Cecil Bowers and company owned what was WPUB AM they had a very nice signal throughout kershaw CO, northern Sumter, and southern Lancaster counties... With the tower in not such great shape and the ground system really screwed up signal pattern they don't do as well as they use to... If anybody does buy WQIS good luck to them... Chris Johnson and WPUB/WCAM have Kershaw CO. pretty well covered with a lot of advertisors who support Kool 102.7 and Startime 1590 with a lot of faith... I worked for Kool/Startime and I know and helped them get a lot of clients they still have today... As for the 4th station in Kershaw CO it would be WCEO am 840... hope that helps you guys out... CC

and the 4th station is NOT...

...the late Jess Tatum's WKSC. Licensed to Kershaw, which used to be in Kershaw County...until residents voted to allow the community to annexed into Lancaster County.
______________

Camden Call Sign Change

By the way, 1130 WQIS is now WEAF. Those legendary calls use to sit at 660 AM in New York until 1946.
______________

Re: Camden Call Sign Change

I technically mis-spoke when I said Kershaw county has four signals. Actually, the fourth is licehsed to the town of Kershaw, which, I've since learned, is Lancaster County. The station is WKSC, a little five-hundred-watter.

And by the way, WCEO is actually licensed to Columbia.
