Inquiry About TV Coverage Of White Sox Victory Celebration

For the first time "since the world was flat" (actually, 1917), Chicago is home of the World Series champions, thanks to the White Sox' victory over the Houston Astros (it's not an upset, for while the Chisox had a good chance to win, I don't think anyone thought it would be a four-game sweep).

I am asking those in Chicago who are able to do so to watch local TV coverage of the postgame activities.

I suspect WFLD-32's late local news (coming as it did after the game ended) will be extended through much of the night. I would also think there will be special coverage on WBBM-2, WMAQ-5, WLS-7 and WGN-9 as well, and that all five of the stations named will be broadcasting live coverage sometime in the early hours of the morning when the White Sox team plane returns to (I suspect) O'Hare International.

To those in Chicago, congratulations! Being in Boston, I know how it feels to have waited forever to win the World Series and finally see it happen last year. I hope the Windy City will have a wonderful, memorable, peaceful and safe celebration tonight (October 26th) and in the days to come.

I can partially answer my own question, thanks to WBBM-2 streaming video of their live coverage of postgame celebrations. The live coverage ended at 1:39 A.M. EDT.

When I logged-on right after the game, they were broadcasting live coverage of press conferences of manager Ozzie Guillen and key players. Later, there were live shots of celebrations in the streets, but as late as 1:30 (EDT), there were still some live shots from Houston's Minute Maid Park.

Near the end, there was a shot from Houston with WBBM anchor/reporter Diann Burns, who bought her son to Houston for the games played there. She brought-on her son to show a baseball he took to the ballpark that was autographed by the White Sox players; something I suspect he'll hang onto for the rest of his life, as well he should.

Technically, there were a few times where the image froze and sound stopped, but restarted within a couple of seconds. And there were other times when the video stream "dumped me", and I had to click "Play" to re-start it.

All the local news channels (2 CBS, 5 NBC, 7 ABC, 9 WGN Tribune owned Cubs, 32 Fox, and Comcast Sports Net who is part owner sports station of the Sox) had about 90 min coverage.

As I write this of course ch 9 ended their coverage before anyone else, then Ch 7, Ch 2 in order.

Fox 32's local coverage started late due to Fox's national trophy coverage.

It is just amazing. People have been in such shock that I do not think it has soaked in yet. Everyone is acting civil so far. No problems, just taking it all in.

Sox will come back sometime on Thursday at Midway I think.
Thanks for the congrats from Boston. These past two seasons in baseball have been some of the best that I can ever imagine would be possible. If this does not get you excited and happy then you will never be a baseball fan. Unbelievable!!!!

Don't Stop Believing and Na Na Na Na Hey Hey Hey Goodbye are the 2 songs of the city right now!!

I first tuned into WGN about a minute after the Astros final out, and the coverage had started, with a live broadcast from a very energetic Southside bar, which was followed up with live shots of fireworks from WGN's helicopter. Later on, a crew was live inside the United Center, where fans were watching the game.

I found WGN's coverage to be very good. Juan Carlos was in Houston, talking with White Sox and Astros fans. I was pleasantly surprised when the Astros fans that he spoke with complimented the new World Series champions. "Y'all have a nice team".

(Last year, when the Red Sox won the World Series in St. Louis, passers-by "flipped off" the WHDH-7 (NBC, Boston) TV crew; Chris May had to move them out of the way.)

I can only second what Joe Gallant said. Also being from the Boston area, I wasn't really aware that your curse was just as bad as ours. Both Sox teams won their previous World Series titles in consecutive years ('17 and '18). It seems almost ironic that the two teams would change history in consecutive years as well.

Congratulations, Chicago.

Thank You Boston Guys. It means alot to us in Chicago. They had the rally today. Last year I rooted for Boston knowing the curse. I was hoping boston would win and maybe our chance is next. IT HAPPENED. Our curse is gone.
