Insider memo at WGST office

I have an inside source at the WGST office and they sent me an official internal memo that talked about how on Wednesday of this week the station registered zero listeners for the day.

At one point a news anchor broke in and said, "The first caller to 404-741-WGST will win $500 cash. It's that simple. No questions to answer, no contest to play. The first caller through at 404-741-WGST will win $500 in cash."

No one called.

No they just did not have any listeners who wanted to call. I never call for contests that doesn't mean I am not listening. Sounds like aa bunch of bull to me. Granted their listenership I have to guess is coing to plummet in that first book but still let's not over dramatize it.

That's the wrong number, hence no calls.

[EDIT]

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Reminds me of a stunt WSB did years ago. There was some relatively unimportant Delta story that broke on a Thursday or Friday. WSB took that stupid little story and ran it in every newscast all weekend long. Over and over and over.

By Monday, they had decided nobody was listening because nobody had called to complain.

I heard it over and over and over and wondered what the heck they were smoking in the newsroom, but this IS Delta's home town so pandering is to be expected.

Plus 10 points for coming up with a goofy stunt, but minus several million for choosing something about a major local company that actually might rate having the same story in the news all weekend long.

There is no such number at WGST, there is no such contest, and none of the three news anchors still on the air at the station would do such a thing (without getting fired). More than likely, the "official memo" was a joke... or you're just making up crap... Considering some of the idiotic things I've read on these boards, either is a definite possibility.

It never happened. If there was such an "official memo", it was a lame attempt at a joke.

radio people meters aren't in use in atlanta

load o' b.s.

It seems to me there are enough legitimate reasons to jump on GST and Clear Channel without having to make things up. And why all the vitriol aimed at a station that is its own worst enemy? Too many axes being ground here for no good reason, IMO.

I think some people aren't being truthful with their criticisms. From the looks of things, everyone WANTS WGST to rise up to become the #1 talker in Atlanta because WSB is a huge local success, and people around here don't like that fact.

I realized this was bogus as soon as I saw who made the original post.

I do indeed like the post about most wanting WGST to rise to the top again. BUT let's be honest its more likely that a small daytime only station would do such a thing compared to WGST because its a CC station. They don't understand the way Radio works. WSB will be at No #1 because they know what formatics it takes to make a winner, at least at News Talk.

oh yes thats right. that small mom n' pop owned station (a daytimer, whatever) can beat wgst becuz clear channel doesn't "understand the way radio works"

if u want people to take your posts seriously don't make such insipid statements. u don't like cc, fine, but to say cc or cbs or cox or other major groups "don't understand how radio works" means u are either a small time wannabe or somebody who's been in a long time and never had what it took to make it very far

Spoken like someone who has never worked for CC-Atlanta. If you haven't noticed, that building is where good radio goes to die.
