Insight/Rockford and RMTs

Why is it that Insight can't fix their EAS box? Once again, their "A Civil Authority has issued a Required Monthly Test from 10:17am to 11:17am" graphic will be up for the entire duration of the hour. My best guess is that it does not ever decode the EOM. It's annoying since I was watching a broadcast station when the RMT hit. They got the RMT, ran the crawl/tones and then cleared it from the screen. Why is it so hard for Insight to get that right?

EWWWWWWWW Don't get me started on out of sight cable... We had Insight about four years ago and even back then from time to time they would have EAS issues... After three months of crappy service with Insight we decided to go with Dish Network and have been happy ever since... CC

I'd love to dump them, however, I'm not in an area that can get DSL (at least not without having to have an SBC line anyway (I just use my cell phone)). The original plan was to get Dish and DSL through Speakeasy but ended up with Insight digital cable and broadband.

Adam,
You can get SBC DSL, for the normal charge, plus a $7 (I think) fee. Contact SBC at 1-877-SBC-DSL5 for more information.

I don't know what the requirements are in the Rockford area for DSL, but where I live, you must have SBC phone service in order to get DSL. They won't sell it separate from the phone service. Just like where my brother lives, DSL isn't available through Sprint (they're the local service in his area), but cable modem service is available and Meidacom is the cable provider. Like my local SBC service requires an active phone line in order to get DSL, Mediacom won't let anyone get cable modem service without cable service from them. Mediacom isn't like Comcast & Time Warner, where they'll let you get cable modem without a cable TV subscription, and charge extra for it if you don't have cable TV.
Edited by dave73 on 11/03/05 04:40 PM.

It is entrely possible their programming is buggered up. The system has a built in timer which should release programming after 2 minutes regardless of what and how long the middle recording is playing.

You should hear 3 long data bursts and 3 short ones wrapped around the voice message. If you don't hear the 3 short bursts after the voice message, then they are not sending the EOM in time and their system is not operating correctly.

I was watching a broadcast station when the RMT hit so I caught it on the broadcast station not on Insight's EAS box so I don't know if the EOM was sent by them.

SBC DSL

> >Like my local SBC service requires an
> > active phone line in order to get DSL...

SBC is buying AT&T, and in fact, taking on the AT&T name. One merger condition is that SBC must offer for at least two years (IIRC), so-called "naked" DSL, without the purchase of a phone line required. Presumably, if you sign up during the period when they are required to offer it, you could keep it until you decide to cancel it, I'd guess.

See http://www.**********.com/ for more info.
