Insignia Boombox Discontinued???

Hey everybody,

I've noticed that the Insignia boombox is no longer listed on Best Buy's website (except for refurbs of that item). Does that mean that it's discontinued? And if so, does that leave the Insignia portable unit as being the only non-car HD radio unit still currently in production? I can't think of any other portable or stereo/home units still in production. Bummer...maybe I should get an extra portable unit or something. I have one and I enjoy using it.

That is old news. It has been gone for a while. Either it is symptomatic that very little radio listening is going on in the home, or that HD doesn't have consumer appeal. Perhaps both. I wouldn't go buying up units hoping to sell them later on eBay!

"I just moved to town and I need a new boombox"

I remember all those hilarious commercials for the Insignia HD boombox for "only" $99. Meanwhile, there are boomboxes that only cost $30 that have the same features except HD reception.

Here's just a few things that sell better than the HD radio boombox

Solar powered flashlight
Scratched CD
Pedal powered wheelchair
Blinker fluid
Black highlighter
Double sided playing cards
Inflatable dartboard
Waterproof towel

Haw haw haw! Funny stuff - thanks for the laff this morning, Nick! :D Let me add to the list of products outselling HD Radios:

100-grit toilet paper
All-beef flyswatter
Milk-Bone alligator treats
Water removal spray
Downtown Detroit getaway weekends
Michael Moore-brand weight-loss and diet products
A ticket to anywhere on U S Air

Unlike the commercials depicting a Best Buy with employees that know about and actively try to sell the HD boombox, and customers that are easily convinced that they absolutely need to buy that boombox, that isn't true in real life. That Best Buy only exists in the imagination of the HD Radio marketing department.

I did an experiment to see how hard it is for the salesman at Best Buy to sell that boombox http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=193994.0

It was what I expected, they tried to sell me a Sirius XM boombox because they had no idea what HD radio is.

I went into a best buy two weeks ago and they had nothing in the portable HD radio. They had no idea of what they had in car stereos with HD radio. Why are car sales people the only ones that know what HD radio is? Well I geuss we know the answer to that.

The average BB employee knows very little about electronics in general. I really wish sometimes that BB would just abolish the sales crew altogether, and just let us browse the store and collect the goods we need, and contact warehouse personnel to help with heavy items.

Frys isn't much better ----
