Insignia NS-HD01A Portable HD Radio Discontinued

I noticed a few months ago that the stock online at Best Buy for these was starting to diminish at each store. Usually when they would sell out in the past at a store, they would be available again sometime down the road. This wasn't the case over the last few months. I also noticed that they moved it from the normal location on the shelf next to the other portable radios to the front checkout lane. I saw one left at the store next to my house a few weeks ago and bought it. It showed up as closeout on the receipt for $25. I noticed online today that it is not available in any store or online. Are they planning on developing a new model or is this it for the Insignia Portable HD Radios?

I'm not sure what their plans are, but I've been very happy with my newer Insignia portable (with gray cladding). The battery seems to last for weeks of light use and the RDS decodes well, too. The analog performance isn't quite as good as the older models, but it's more than made up for it with the best HD reception of any HD radio I've tried, including some OEM car radios.

It's still a bit clunky to use, the build quality is not great and the RDS doesn't seem to show the PS, only R-Text (or some weird combination thereof) but it's definitely the best cheap HD radio now if you can find one that isn't defective right out of the box.

Yes. It will be missed. I'm hoping they develop a new version but I'm skeptical since this one discontinued without a newer model coming out. I like the latest version also. The font is clearer and there is a stereo light in analog mode. The stereo indicator is glitchy especially when seeking an analog only station. Plus there is a world tuner option on this one. The only other glitch I see is the preset button will tend to go the other direction sometimes when you press on it. The battery life is longer. If you look at the back, the 2012 4.00.16 version has a 750 mah battery and the newer 2014 5.9 version has a higher capacity 900 mah battery. I noticed the analog white noise or dead space in between stations or when a station loses signal is weird sounding. It's kind of noisy in my opinion.
