There's always many topics on how bad radio stations, on air people, corporatations etc. are.

So, for a change of pace answer this..

Who inspires you?

how funny..103 views and not one reply.
Boomer, you stumped the radio geeks....goodness. Should someone call Satan to see if it is freezing?

Maybe the story here is the apparent lack of inspiration. The broadcasting industry has been beaten senseless. Looking from the bottom, it's hard to see the light when you're cowering under cover. Looking from the top, it's hard to see the sun when your head is up your a$$.

He is not my top personal hero but among broadcasters I would have to say that I find Clark Howard an inspiration. Able to be upbeat, and able to carry on conversation without getting all wrapped-around-the-axle over partisan issues.

Another person I admire is station owner Art Sutton who DOES NOT seem to have his head in a placement where "the sun don't shine".

Though it is a niche among the formats, I admire NPR programming and a whole, and the personalities of WABE.

And if you are looking for a station to admire, try on WDUN for size.

Come on, guys. Knock off the gloom-and-doom. Surely someone inspires the rest of you. I used to work with a guy that so admired Mr. Scrooge that he would show up at the annual Christmas dinner dressed as Scrooge. Everybody admires someone. We just didn't know at the time that someday Mr. Scrooge would own a radio station.

I second the Clark Howard nomination, mostly because of the public service he provides...not an egomanic just trying to listen to himself talk. Also, I grew up listening to Kaedy Kiley on 96 Rock, and I find the fact that she's still going strong inspiring. She's one of the best.

If you're ever up in the wee hours of the morning, David Stein, who is part of Sporting News Radio and heard locally on 790 the Zone, is truly an inspirational show host. Not your typical sports talk. Whether you're a sports lover or not, you have got to listen. He's on from 2a-6a.

Atlanta has many on air folks who are terrific people and great "best friends" via the airwaves. All those mentioned - and many more.......
I must also ditto on the comments about Art Sutton. I think Art is one of the few left who actually "gets it." His company remains profitable because his stations still serve their local communities.
Being financially frugal but never losing sight of what is required to nurture the connection between station and listener is a balancing act most can't seem to accomplish. "Penny wise - Pound foolish" is the old saying......I think that's the problem with many of our bean counter run corporations. Thank God for folks like Art Sutton and the Jacobs (WDUN, Gainsville)who remind us of what radio CAN be!

Absolutely.
