Insurance Tunes Out WBAI Sandy Claim

I imagine Cumulus would buy 99.5. Maybe 103.9 will continue to be WFAS because of the translator no longer being fed 103.9's signal. 103.9 would be a limited signal I do not know what they would put on 103.9 if 99.5 becomes Alternative. Maybe 103.9 will become Urban A/C. What is Urban A/C & What's urban contemporary? I don't know the difference. Is R&B included in that format? I have a feeling it's love ballads and what not and smooth sounding music.

FSRN and Democracy Now! are independent of Pacifica operationally....FSRN was born from a Pacifica affiliates' strike nearly 20 yrs ago and DN! moved out during one of the last "violent" rounds of upheaval at WBAI.
Both of them do rely on Pacifica money to some extent....It'd be great if FSRN could find some sustaining funding, though I think DN! would continue without problems if Pacifica went belly-up.

You're absolutely right - the first FSRN newscasts were produced in the 1999-2000 timeframe. Laying the groundwork for the show began in 1996 at the RNC Convention (also considered the launch-moment of Indymedia), and when the "implosion" took place a few years later many of the pieces for FSRN were already in place.
Cumulus Buys 99.5 and brings Alternative or Rock back to the city? It's about time!
If Cumulus gets involved, most likely they trade 94.7/103.9 for 99.5 and move Nash FM there. WBAI would get $15 million, which should help them out. WBAI would lose coverage in Suffolk county and Connecticut, but do the rich folks who live in those areas even listen to WBAI?XCountry285 said:

Why wouldn't Cumulus buy 99.5 and keep the rest of their stations? If anything Cumulus should buy 99.5 and sell 103.9. 103.9's signal is complete crap compared to 99.5's signal! Moving Nash to 99.5 would confuse listeners. 99.5 would be alternative while 103.9 could be WBAI. or If Cumulus owns 103.9 they could put Dance on 103.9 because it will have a signal that is focused on the city. Folks in Passaic (North), North Bergen, Morris and Western Essex would probably be big on Alternative.
