You know, back in the old days, he said with creaky bones, radio stations did a lot of "crosstown mind games". Sometimes, they did it on the request lines of the competing station. Sometimes, they did it at a station promotion for their competitor.
This still happens these days, of course, but welcome to the 2005 "Inter-Station Battleground"...the Internet.
This board is a particular example. It is *incredibly* well read in Northeast Ohio's radio markets. From personal experience alone, I'd be willing to bet that a pretty sizable group of folks at every major broadcast cluster and station in this area read this board. I'm constantly amazed at the feedback I've seen, even in private. It's like you mention someone's name, and they'll E-Mail you. (And yes, I keep those confidences. Always have.)
And of course, we have some air personalities and programmers here, including at a certain Stark County station, and an certain Akron/Canton cluster currently HQ'ed in Stark County's Jackson Township.
You know, both of you, all of you, I'm glad you're here.
I don't take all this back and forth about the various stations all that seriously. As someone else said, it's just radio, folks. Only instead of on the request lines or behind the scenes at promotions, we're all seeing it now.
The aforementioned programmers (and air personalities) don't take any of this seriously. They can't. Their problems aren't message board posters (including those attached to their competition) dissing them. Their problems are looking at that damned book and figuring out how to get those numbers higher, and making their station sound great, and making all the stuff the promotions and sales folks do work.
So, they have a little fun here. Blow off a little steam. It means pretty much, well, nothing.
The only time it really bothers me is when very personal rumored details come out about people...stuff that could very well net the person posting them a lawsuit if it is not true.
For the record, I haven't heard that certain CHR in Alliance, the one which seems to provoke so many flames here, in a long time. I check in with 98.1 from time to time (BTW, our own Rob McKenzie sounded GREAT filling in for Keith, I had no idea! I try not to be awake on Sunday mornings
, but as my posts here would indicate, I'm mostly a news/talk/sports creature. So I don't really have a "horse" on that whole race, aside from having been fortunate enough to meet Keith and some of the CC Akron/Canton folks over the past couple of years (and maybe one night on 640 a few months ago...).
Ah, my windbag nature is winding down, and my participation is slowing here. For those keeping track of my personal life and schedule, I have to go to the sink in my upstairs restroom and put some gunk on my face that has cleared it up immensely over the past few months. Then, I'll probably go to bed. More updates, later, if anyone cares.
