Can you be a bit more specific? What are your options for what? Breaking into and working in the broadcasting business? Interested in management? On-air? Engineering?Hi, i’m currently 17 at the moment but will be 18 soon. I’ve been interested in radio. What are my options? I’m familiar with Leif Claesson’s Omnia .9. And general FM stuff. Thank you for your help!

I’ll have to give WQED a word. Thank you for the advice.Have you applied to college? My recommendation is to look at the Newhouse School of Communication at Syracuse. They have a very active student-run FM radio station (WJPZ) as well and an NPR station (WAER) and an online station. They have an audio arts department that trains in all forms of audio production. Plus a fully operational TV studio. Their alumni are placed all over the country.
Until then, you might look into volunteering at WQED or one of the area non-coms. It would at least get you in the door.
Yes! I agree with all of this! Also you might want to check radio stations in the area (corporate owned but especially the smaller community owned stations) about getting trained to be a board operator etc. Yes you can learn a lot in school but also have found out that nothing beats the hands-on experience and guidance from some of the radio vets and owners in the area. That is priceless and something that you really can't teach but have to experience. Good luck!Have you applied to college?
