Interesting article: Should hospitals have TV's in their rooms?

Children's Hospital Boston, which runs a center that is an authority on the effects of television on children, has TVs throughout the building, some of which show programs to infants.

Cartoons, educational programs, and other shows are shown to children as young as 2 months old; the (Boston)Globe observed two babies on their backs with screens playing cartoons a foot from their faces. A hospital spokeswoman said the TVs provide a necessary distraction from treatment, but the practice is drawing criticism.

Perhaps television serves as a bit of medical subterfuge, to keep patients' minds off the menu at meal time, although some of the garbage that passes for TV programming is kind of hard to swallow, too. In fairness I've been on a couple of surgical recovery floors here and about where the food was excellent. But then there are
those........................................

Hi everyone:

When I was in the hospital myself last year, TV is what kept me from getting bored for the EIGHT WEEKS I was there.

As a result, I'm now looking at my next computer being a laptop with WiFi capability. This way, all I'd have to do is get a Sprint Mobile Broadband Card (My cell phone service is with Sprint) and I'm all set. If I ever get admitted to the hospital again, all I'd I'd have to do is have someone bring my laptop, external mouse and Broadband card to the hospital and *VOILA!* - I'm on the Internet from my hospital room.

Heck, why not? They're getting cheap enough nowadays. :D

Just my opinion :D

Cheers :D

Don't fall asleep without having your laptop taken from the hospital, or you're apt to be sans laptop when you awake. Applies also to any place where the computer would be unsecured. Portables are a hot theft target these days.

I thought televisions were customary in all hospital patient rooms?

In fact here in Connecticut, just outside of NYC, many patients are given laptops with wireless internet capabilities. The same thing can be said for visitors or people registering in the waiting rooms.

They've had television sets in all the patient rooms here since at least the early 80s. Where in the world was this article written?
