Interesting Bridge Ratings regarding terrestrial listenership!

Not only that, the ratings that count...ARBITRON, now more accurate than ever with PPM technology, show terrestrial listenership STRONGER than was thought to be the case when ratings were done exclusively with the paper diary method.

Yeah.... right...

Philadelphia has 2,037 PPM users with about 1800 actually complying.... for such a large city!

Houston the only other city doing this is 2,076 PPM users with only 1930 actual users complying for another large city!

At those rates, it sure indicates how many on average is listening to terrestrial radio!

Not much better than the paper method if you ask me, not only that but it doesn't indicate whether these listeners use other non-radio devices since they are not encoded, thereby giving false results!

So why would Bridge Ratings be any different on a survey based system!

If its numbers that interest you you better not listen to any political pols. They have a much smaller sampling pool and are very acurate if done properly. The ad agencies are happy with Arbitron and they pay the bills.

A sample of a few thousand is more than enough for a VERY accurate measurement of listening in a large city. Obviously someone's knowledge of statistics is AT LEAST the equal of his understanding of rf and digital technology.

Much of Arbitron (Especially in medium markets) is who got diaries, where did they place, how much did a station pay (To the diarykeeper) and the like. My stations have pretty much had moderate ratings, except for when we found out "AFTERWARDS" that we had a friend with a book. (Gotta love that). I know competitors "Help Out" diarykeepers a lot more than we ever have. BTW...

Look for the "PPM attender" coming to this years NAB. You put any old PPM in the holster, tune in your radio station and let 'er rip. The "Attender" will rotate, tilt or jog the PPM every 2-5 minutes to show activity. The TSL keeps racking up. Heck, you participant gets you credit even while they are out of town...

We'll be out back of the NAB in the alley behind the convention center next week. These things cost $7.95 to build. They're $79.95 cash to any station. Ready NOW. Ask for Vinny.

Just add a diary keeper for $100 and a few dinner certificates and you are ready to go. Get 6 survey participants and your "Jacksonville's #1 All hit Gregorian music channel" is #1... Thanks to "The Attender".

It's like steroids. Arbitron makes the rules. Stations find ways to cheat.

Still, it is the best system we have. Losers usually protest the results. We can all cheat the same. (Wait I didn't really say that, did I?)

BTW, I expect that HD radio is REALLY BAD (Rating wise) right now.

Maybe we should talk to people in shopping malls... (Yep, it was catty)

Clouseau

Next years PPM attender option... the "Attender Movement randomizer 2.0". Guaranteed to outwit Arbitron's new "Integrity '08" PPM software release. Look for us at NAB 'NEXT" year.

Sounds like a "must have" device for lots of stations. I'l be looking for Vinny at NAB. I'm sure he'll be there....
