Interesting Comment on the DTV Switch

I was just watching a local news report for a station in a market where 3 of the big 4 are cutting analog on 2/17, who were doing a "call in" for people with questions about the switch. After listing the local stations ceasing analog (NBC, ABC, Fox and PBS), the question was asked "Why is [station] shutting down analog now, rather than on June 12?", the reporter's response was (paraphrased - I wish I had it recorded... - unfortunately, no DVR...) "We're just following the rules as originally set down by the Bush Administration, not the new rules sent out by the Obama Administration".

Hmmmm, I wonder which candidate the station supported...

Of course later on in the newscast, the station ran an ad for a credit union where the ad started out like "I've been hunting with my son for years, and now that he's old enough, we're getting him signed up at the local credit union..."

I hate it when stations call it the DTV "Switch" - switch means "immediate change" - i.e., on/off, analog/digital, soft/loud, etc. Save for the few stations without a digital companion channel, it's been a simulcast for years (for most) and then a cessation of analog. Most stations are not all of a sudden switching - folks could have (and many have been) watching the digital channel - and should have been by now. At this point stations should be airing their "enhanced nightlight" programming on the analog channel and let the folks who aren't ready watch "all DTV ads, all the time!!!

I know I see red when I get a pixilated or black screen from my digital box. At least with analog, I could still watch tv through a snowy screen.
