Bizarro conditions yesterday and today:
530khz AM Cuba, from google search appears to be Radio encyclopedia? Music, Spanish. No NAVTEX for me on 518k however
9655 KNLS from Alaska, fair to poor
5765u AFN Los Angeles (receiving for first time this week after yrs of casual listening)
9605 R Free Asia 100kw but again 1st time receiving it
VOA but I didn't log frequency sorry
what is weird is that stations I NEVER receive I am receiving now fair to poor, and the usual stations sound like they are taking long path and are poor. Basically I am hearing a whole "new" line up instead of the usual stations while scanning.
Pt Moresby 3910k R. Central at 10kW actually was GOOD while R Aus was poor to fair.
weak long distant stations appear to be coming in while the stronger stations I always am able to hear are rather poorish sounding and sound like they are coming from China.
Otherwise, conditions are very cool past few days!
I have a coax and wire antenna about 75' vertical on top of a building using an "ugly balun" they call it- TenTec 320D radio. Laptop unplugged while using or else electrical noise makes listening impossible. Lots of noise from USB/Serial cable connects from radio to computer also. Any ideas how to fix this would be very appreciated.
EMI noise would be non-existent with battery operated radio but until it comes in the mail I am stuck with the TenTec.
QTH location is Phoenix Arizona.
