I looked this filing up after hearing a call in show talking about the proposed new "gay" or "GLBT" station coming to Beaumont. It was hilarious when one caller said the applicant was a man pretending to be a woman. I don't think this station will fly in Beaumont. San Francisco, probably. Austin, maybe. Beaumont? Definitely not.I actually wouldn’t say that.
The person who is mentioned as a board member for the LPFM in the Petition to Deny, in addition to being a convicted felon who did not disclose this in the application, had a history with a local AM station in Beaumont. I won’t get too far into it as you can look it up on this site, (and the Houston board on here is wild in and of itself) but suffice to say he defaulted on the payment plan for the station, the original owners re-sold it. According to this document, this person chained himself to one of the AM’s towers and was trespassed from the transmitter site once it was sold.
Anyway, take that as you will…not saying it’s the ham radio club’s business to be filing this stuff, but at least someone is paying attention.
The whole idea that the FCC cares about political affiliations or gender identities is just absurd. The FCC is not the "Thought Police". Democrats and Republicans and even Socialists may own stations, and that is a good thing. People who fall under the LGBTQ+ umbrella also can and should own stations if they wish. Also a good thing. The Petition to Deny would be stronger if it left out the political stuff in the beginning, as well as the stuff about the “man pretending to be a woman”. None of that has any bearing on whether the FCC licenses the station or not.
Worth noting: a "gay" or LGBTQ+ station does not have to talk about sexual issues all day... with a lisp. It is far from those prejudiced stereotypes; it involves more the creation of an "atmosphere" with the music and style that many gay persons enjoy.I looked this filing up after hearing a call in show talking about the proposed new "gay" or "GLBT" station coming to Beaumont. The other thing these petitioners don't get is that their petition doesn't even get seen by the commissioners themselves. It gets reviewed by a bunch of staffers in the Audio Division and by staff lawyers, none of whom are political appointees. The whole idea that the FCC cares about political affiliations or gender identities is just absurd. Of course, I see how nutty the whole petition is. But, as you say, it benefits little from the political and social comments. If I worked at the FCC and had to review this petition, it would be hard to avoid developing a negative bias no matter how much I tried to remain objective.
hmm…was the tower “live” (energized) what a fool if it was…RF burns?“According to this document, this person chained himself to one of the AM’s towers and was trespassed from the transmitter site once it was sold.
I guess if you are going to chain yourself to an AM tower, you should do it just after sunset with a daytime only station, and hope you get arrested before sunrise.😵💫😵🤣hmm…was the tower “live” (energized) what a fool if it was…RF burns?
Yeah, just looked at the FCC database. Looks like the kitty cats are still being catty. Reply to Petition to Deny.pdf. https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/d...g/attachment/25076f91934be7c101935fe0f0451263Who knew the ham radio clubs of Texas could be so catty
It's the same where I work, at a university. I'm forever opening emails from people who are angry that the university is purportedly promoting one-or-another political or social cause, often something related to race or LGBTQ+. Quite often, you'll get two from different people who are angry that we're promoting opposite causes. The other thing these petitioners don't get is that their petition doesn't even get seen by the commissioners themselves. So this guy and his ham club are shouting into a void, for the most part.
