Interesting Rumor- Bonneville St. Louis

I've pulled this from another message board to see what you guys and gals think:Rumor has it that the Modern AC format on WVRV (101.1 The River) is about to run its course. While it would seem stupid to flip the radio station after having just hired Steve and DC for mornings after a two-year-plus absence in the market, the rumor is that they were hired, stuck on The River, and are being prepped to be moved to mornings on 92.3 WIL once their morning show's (Cornbread) contract expires in July. That rumor says that either A) Cornbread is going to move to a larger market or that B) He is not going to be offered a new deal. This rumor also comes on top of one that has S&DC being moved to mornings on Variety Hits WARH (106-5 The Arch). I find that one a lot harder to believe, but this is the same company that destroyed a perfectly good and decently-selling Smooth Jazz on 106.5 (WSSM) in order to beat CBS Radio to the punch in launching a Variety Hits station.Thoughts?

This is also the same company that is about to buy and flip a successful rhythmic station to Phoenix to a simulcast of their AM talk station. I don't know a whole lot about Bonneville, but the little I know have not been very glowing.

Bonneville has this tendancy to sell off or flip stations they simply can't program or don't understand, as witnessed with WLUP Chicago, Z104 in DC, and so on...WLUP was a VERY hard station for Bonneville to program due to its ownership (aka the Mormons). There are just some things Bonneville refuses to play on ANY of its stations. The Phoenix station doesn't make a lot of sense since FreeFM is tanking badly in Phoenix, but we ARE talking Bonneville here.

Steve and D-C on WIL? Strange things do sometimes happen...but the move to the Arch would make more sense..I can't see a country audience buying into Steve and D-C..unless they want to work on each and every St. Louis spot on the dial at least once in their careers..

Steve & DC were actually on a country format from, I believe, 1997 to 2000. When Emmis acquired WKBQ and WKKX from Zimmer and made the ill-fated flip of WKBQ to [email protected], Steve & DC were moved to country WKKX "Kix 106." Zimmer was running Steve & DC on several of their rock stations from when they owned the show and wasted little time dumping them after they moved to WKKX because "all they talk about is country music." So, they probably would do better on country than you might think. However, I thought Cornbread was doing just fine on mornings at WIL, and there's no need to fix something that's not broken.

Besides, the ARCH is kicking Butt and taking names by playing music in the morning. Why would they risk a morning show in there?

Kent is correct..I had totally forgotten about the ''Zimmer Chapter'' in their careers..they also had Frank O-Pinion walk out on them on a Friday soon after they bought 104 and made the flip..

FOP didn't "walk out"...he gave appropriate notice and spent his contracted "time out" before he returned on the air.

Bonneville is constricted by their highly conservative ways. Their stations tend to be bland and inoffensive. Nonetheless, I will say that their Chicago cluster (The Drive, WTMX and Love 100) are programmed very well. Good sounding stations, though nothing really groundbreaking here.

As for WLUP, that was a bad fit. Emmis should do better with it (paired with Q101 there) and Johnny B. in the morning.
