Interesting variety on 96.1 WSRS

Here are some songs that I heard: Love Don't Cost A Thing by J-Lo, Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, Hold The Line by Toto, Ironic By Alanis Morissette.

As a former WSRS-FM personality, I can't imagine them playing J-Lo !
One thing's for sure, WSRS-FM was / probably still is a great station and a powerhouse, but, i'm not too sure about this format tweak...

I have heard of ACs playing Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" (Lite 106.7 in NY comes to mind), I'm sure Toto's "Hold the Line" can get disguised in there with "Rosana" and "Africa," and I'm sure many ACs play "Ironic." Not sure about "Love Don't Cost A Thing." It's not even one of J. Lo's more memorable hits.

It seems to be the natural progression of the AC format. Also, given the right engineer who can fiddle with the dials to make a station sound a certain way, a song like "Crazy" from Gnarls Barkley can sound like it can fit on a mellower, office-type station like an AC, a more artistic AAA or alternative, or blasting from a car on top 40. Oh, the power of modulation!!

PS, is that you Cruisin' Bruce? Saw you a couple weeks ago at a car show in Newport. You should start an online oldies station!

magic 106-7 in boston also plays gnarls barkley in its regular rotation. it's the new world order of ac format.

They also play "Behind These Hazel Eyes" by Kelly Clarkson, and "Get the Party Started" by Pink. And a few years ago, they even played "Baby One More Time" and "Oops! I Did It Again" by Britney Spears. But I've noticed that they don't call themselves "Lite Rock" anymore like they used to. I guess it's time for a Cool Change (I remember they used to play that song a lot back in the late 90s, and they don't anymore).

By the way, does anyone remember that guy named RJ, the old Love Songs host? I remember it was called "Love Songs After Dark." Why do you think he left, and they switched to Delilah?

Don't know anything about what happened to RJ, but loads of AC stations nationwide run Delilah. I'd guess the syndicated show is probably cheaper than paying a DJ, and there may be attached sponsorships as well.

Fortunately, the AC here in Boston has a longtime popular local evening host with excellent ratings, David Allen Boucher. And, those here who really want to hear Delilah can hear her on WSRS (Worcester), WZID (Manchester NH), or WSNE (Taunton/Providence) on any decent radio.

Providence also has a local evening host named Art Spencer on Lite Rock 105, he does the Nite Lite show. I have to say that out of the 3 evening shows audible in the Boston area, Nite Lite is my favorite. I love his selection of music, and I've been listening to him for about 10 years now. From what I understand, David Allen Boucher has done that show for 20 years. Has Art Spencer done Nite Lite for as long?

The station, WWLI "Lite Rock 105" has been AC for 21 years. Prior to that, the station was top 40 "JB 105" WPJB, and they and 92 PRO-FM had quite a radio war. Art has been at the station for at least 15 years.

I heard Magic play it the other day. The segue went something like this...

(fade out: Bonnie Raitt "I Can't Make You Love Me")
Jingle: "Soft... Rock...." (slow)
Nancy Quill: "Here's Gnarles Barkley!"
Jingle: "Magic 106 point 7" (slow)
(fade in: Gnarles Barkley "Crazy")

If you're going to play a song like Crazy, at least make the segue fit.
