Interference is relative

Just to show that interference isn't restricted to HD, I post this link to a story about the group that knocked down an AM radio tower in Everett Washington. They claim the reason they did it was because of the "harmful interference" caused by AM radio waves. Methinks their problem is deeper than anything cause by interference. But that's just me. Just FYI, the station affected doesn't broadcast in HD.

Eco-terrorists strike again, relying on junk "scientific" data, juvenile hysteria, self-aggrandizement and egocentric urges to attract attention - any kind of attention.

Let's all hope the perps are caught and sent upriver for an extended stay in the Iron Bar Motel.

Terrorism is terrorism, even if it's rooted in perverted environmentalism. Terrorists should be dealt with harshly.

My sympathies and best wishes go out to the people at KRKO.

"Interference is relative" especially when relatives interfere?

Who said that, where, when and why?

Who are "they"?

Harmful to whom or what?

What type of "interference"?

To wildlife, locals, listeners or other stations?

Since "The Big A" seems to have inside information on why the tower destruction crimes were committed and perhaps how and who comitted them, he should be talking to the FBI instead wasting time posting about it here on the HD radio forum.

What do these crimes have to do with HD radio?

Just FYI, the station affected doesn't broadcast in HD.

So, why are you here "A"?

Is there some obtuse hidden agenda at work here?

I think the answer to all of your questions are in the article. I posted the URL. Read it.

When and where did I say that? YOU seem to be making crap up.

This is a public message board, available to anyone. No agenda. I just posted an interesting article. You don’t like it? Don’t read it. Unless YOU have some kind of agenda. You wouldn’t have an agenda, would you?

"A" I see in the link to a CNN article that you appended, the following statement:

The Earth Liberation Front (ELF) issued a statement saying opponents of the towers argue that "AM radio waves cause adverse health effects including a higher rate of cancer, harm to wildlife, and that the signals have been interfering with home phone and intercom lines."

I saw no mention of the type of radio station to radio listener or other radio station interference or HD radio station to other station problems we have been discussing here. But if KRKO did broadcast HD radio signals they might possibly pollute more then just the analog signals and perhaps add to the analog radio signals destructiveness causing increased
adverse health effects including a higher rate of cancer, harm to wildlife, and that the signals have been interfering with home phone and intercom lines."

However, I doubt it.

I did not see the phrase you quoted "harmful interference" in the article you sited.

But now you say you have no inside information.

I hope those responsible for felling the towers wind up breaking rocks in the hot sun. Or worse yet, make them erect the replacements. No cranes, just a gin pole and a bunch of rope. Heave, Ho.

These people are NUTS, they think AM radio is re-arranging their chromosomes or something. Pseudo science. They are terrorists according the homeland security, and should be hunted down and prosecuted as terrorists.

Yup fanatical morons who are afraid of radio waves. The ELF is full of wack jobs and has been around for quite a long time. I think the average IQ is somewhere near borderline intellectual functioning or approx 70-80.

These are the same ELF whack nut idiots that burn down houses that are nearing completion in newer subdivisions "for the Earth." I'd bet the Earth is really happy to be the recipient of dozens of toxic constituents that are off-gassed during such a fire. GREAT for the environment. Whoever commented on their IQs being around 75 is being far too generous. They are supposedly radical environmentalists. As if destroying things is good for the environment.

It never ceases to amaze me how you get these idiots who insist upon the adoption of this technology or that one - only to eventually learn that the 'new' technology is actually worse for the environment than the old one. CFLs and hybrid cars come to mind. A room full of ivory tower types sit and think one-dimensionally about an issue and impose that on others.

I think the Simpsons had an episode like that - by the end they were all begging for Mayor Quimby!

What in the world are they going to do about RF from lightning, or worse (gasp!) Solar RADIATION!
