Interference will be HD'S downfall

I've spoken with engineers regarding Ibiquity HD and most believe that there is no solution to the problem of interference. It is a monster of a problem and as soon as a fair number of stations adopt the new HD power increases it's going to be an absolute disaster.

It's just not ever going to pan out - the science proves it but Ibiquity, Clear Channel and the rest of those that spent millions investing in this technology refuse to believe science- unfortunately, too many people are of the mindset - MAKE IT WORK!

Not going to happen! FM EXTRA would have worked but the long term MEGA pay-outs weren't there for investors. Sure FM Extra would have made a few thousand for every station that invested in their equipment but it wasn't lIBIQUITY .. With IBIQUITY you have a huge initial licensing fee, a yearly maintenance fee, astronomical costs for equipment, significant engineering costs, etc, etc.. it was all about the money not the science :(

It didn't win because it was the better HD solution - the truth is, it's an absolute nightmare but because there's lot of money to be made it was the appointed winner.

Hopefully, FM EXTRA will be able to be revived as IBIQUITY falls into its early grave --

INVESTMENT IN IBOC HD - GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT :-[

What's not generally known is that Iniquity's so-called "HD" in-band-out-of-channel system is dependent on the earlier work of Derek Kumar, the inventor of FMeXtra. After Digital Radio Express (now known as VuCast, because they seem to think the word "radio" is poison to investors) was formed, but before FMeXtra was developed, DRE licensed those earlier patents to Iniquity not for cash, but for stock. They did that because, at the time, they didn't see much potential for profit in their own pre-FMeXtra technology without big financial backing, and thus they decided to throw in their lot with USA Digital, which later merged with Lucent's digital radio spinoff to form Iniquity Digital Corporation.

In a Dec. 2005 Radio World Engineering Extra interview, Kumar says, point blank, "We are an Ibiquity shareholder." ( See http://www.bext.com/RW/RWFMeXtraDec05.pdf, page 2.)

There also appears to have been some sort of anti-disparagement clause in that arrangement.

This whole mess should be the subject of some kind of anti-trust or restraint-of-trade investigation, but don't hold your breath waiting for that!

WOW!!! Radio Skeptic this is really insightful!

It really complicates matters - FM Extra provides far superior HD, yet the very founder of the company may have a huge conflict of interest. This should be the talk of national news.

FM Extra should be the norm when in fact, Ibiquity HD the chosen standard is nothing more than a primitive, early version of FM Extra. :(
