Internal photo of a PR-D5

I've never seen a photo of the inside of a Sangean PR-D5 on the Internet, so I got out my camera and a screwdriver. Here it is.

I suspect the 200mm loopstick is the same basic one used in the C Crane AM "Twin Coil" receivers, without the Crane balanced amplifier.

My speculation is that the inside of a PR-D15 looks much the same, with a different PCB.

Cheers,
Dana K6JQ

Wow. Thanks!!

Now I know what mine looks like inside.

It is such a solid radio and I found that out even more the other night. It was very late and I was sitting in my one person sofa-like chair listening to a graveyard frequency hoping to hear something rise above the mess.

The radio was sitting up on the arm of the chair and I had my right hand holding it in place. Then I start to nod off to sleep and next thing I know, I wake up right away by the sound of my PR-D5 hitting the floor.

Did that ever wake me up!

I thought the radio would be damaged but no harm at all!!

Carpet but a thin one.

From the sound it made, I was sure something had to be broken but no harm at all.

I too thank you for the photo. I know little about electronics, but it certainly looks like a very well thought out and clean design. No clutter what so ever.

The PR-D5 is one great DX receiver. I've never had a problem with it, but when the power cord broke, Sangean replaced it with a much better one at a reasonable price.

I have a Drake R8B matched up with a Wellbrook loop. One morning before dawn, I picked up the PR-D5 & tuned first to 640 and then 680, and got my first reception of L.A. and S.F.

Went down to my office and tried listening for them on my Drake. Nothing.
