INTERNET BROADCASTING

I'll admit to being the least knowledgeable on the transmitter/technical side of things here. in the studio or behind a mike, i'm fairly good to go. been researching what it takes to throw an internet station up..but the tech end is UNKNOWN TO ME..LETS SAY I HAVE A DEDICATED PC, SAM BROADCASTER OR OTS AS A PROGRAM, and my format/spots/jingles loaded and mixed..i know you have to have a host as shoutcast or live 365, got to have soundexchange i think to administer fees..but i'm lost on number of listeners that may be able to listen..something called live slots to purchase ?? i thought once you had your stream up through whatever host, anyone that clicked in could listen..but seems to be associated with band width..can someone explain in 3RD grade engish for my benefit..whats involved, cost and tech wise so scott could tune in and hear me LOL ;)
