Mine was in the nineties, when I found ENERGY 108 (Hamilton Toronto), Power 88.5 Toronto, as well as Hits 103.5,,,NOW z-1035, all Dance stations, and they all streamed.

Good thread right here :)
I think among the first stations that I used to check out their streams included the now defunct 100.5 The Fox in Saginaw, and 104.3 ZYP in Huntsville. 104 KRBE Houston and Kiss 95.7 Hartford were also early CHR streamers, but their webcast quality wasn't as good early on.
One of the best moments a bit down the road was when Z-100 New York started streaming, that was great!
From abroad it was great listening to London's 95.8 Capital FM, Radio 538 out of Holland, Alfa 91.3 Mexico City, NRJ out of France, and yes those great Toronto stations Midwestclubber mentioned.

http://www.wa1a.com 107.1 Melbourne, FL with the old Netscape audio player in 1995. Terrible audio quality. Also KDGE The Edge, Houston when they were at 94.5. RealAudio, sounded terrible too.<P ID="signature">______________

I believe Yesterday USA, an OTR station in Dallas, was the first Internet radio station I ever heard. But at first I didnt realize it was a radio station.

Almost 10 years ago now, I got to be a beta tester for WebTV. Part of that was their development of a streaming decoder for RealAudio (and I think Xing, too). I got totally hooked on KPIG out of Freedom CA, one of the very early internet streamers, and Seattle's GAYBC. Until WebTV added functionality which connected to local ISPs, that was a LOT of listening over long distance dialup. These days KPIG's Wild Bill Goldsmith has one of the best streaming stations and communities, bar none: Radio Paradise. GAYBC's John McMullen and Jeremy Hovies are at OutQ, Sirius Radio's LGBT channel (also available online for their radio subs).

WOLF-FM.com was the first station I listened to online... found it in the first iteration of iTunes. Great station. Great programming and to top it off it was designed, and is run by a former radio engineer who lost his eyesight and is operating the online station for partial income. Gotta love that "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" mentality.About half the oldies radio station programmers in America should listen to this station and learn a thing or two.

Interesting about that engineer... back when I volunteered at WMCU in Miami, our chief engineer was blind. I'm not sure if he's still there or not... the web site doesn't mention him (he used to do a southern gospel show Saturday afternoons)... but his name was Bill Coppage. Very nice guy, one heckuva engineer, and someone who was always there to help. The man even sat out Hurricane Andrew in a trailer at the tower site (which, at the time, WMCU leased tower space from then-CBS affiliate WCIX-TV, which is now WFOR) in Homestead! When the tower fell, it cut the trailer right in half, and Bill was there for the whole ordeal. When the hurricane passed and everything settled, he was right there working to get things back up and running! That's dedication to your job!Anyway... back to the topic at hand! The first stream I ever listened to was WPOW in Miami, even though I was in Miami at the time. I just wanted to experience online radio. Later, when I moved to North Carolina, I continued listening to WPOW online, and while they were using the same streaming host, I discovered Energy 92-7&5 in Chicago, a station that I quickly became addicted to :) I listened to them right up through the format flip. That was one sad, sad night.

London's NewsDirect 97.3 FM was my first station I listened to online. I would listened to this commercial all-news station everytime I visited the UK. I thought it was so great being able to listen to this station 5,000 miles away. That was in 1999 when I got a broadband connection in my house. The station is now on 1152 AM and has been owned by Chrysalis since late 2002. :) ;D 8) ::)

My first online radio listening experence was the no longer around 'Radio Aahs" Children's network, they had a 14.4k or 28.8k quality real audio feed if I remeber, it was not the greatest sound but at the time back in late 90s it sounded not bad compaired to the other options (there was not WMA or Mp3 streaming back then) --Matt
