Internet Station Using KFNN's Frequency as their own in San Tan Valley

Greetings Board,

Have been gathering evidence of an Internet Station here in San Tan Valley, that has made claims to be on 1510am while accepting ad revenue from local businesses. This outlet also has ties to the Local Paper through Today Publications. I respect this board and most of its users. Please visit http://www.facebook.com/kqcxradio to see all of the postings we are making and see if you don't draw the same conclusions. We are trying to put an end to their practice. It's disgraceful. Using a licensed stations frequency and claiming it as your own.

Thanks :)

Unless they're using 1510 only at night when KFNN's mighty 100 watts is inaudible anywhere south or east of the Biltmore. But if they are doing this, I hope they're sticking to Part 15 limits. The sports station in Denver would put a big bite into their (limited) coverage, though.

Why would any pirate station operate on Ancient Modulation? And why would you use a frequency already occupied by a commercial broadcaster? JD Hayworth must be behind this!

Something is screwy. When I go to www.kqcx.com, Shon White shows up as the host of 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays.

But Shon White is the OP of this thread, and seems to complain about KQCX. Can somebody explain what is going on?

The culprit is KQCK, not KQCX. And if they claimed coverage from Tempe to Coolidge on 1510, then I want some of what they're smoking. ;D

Unless that's a typo and they're trying to glomm off of KCKY 1150 (which would have that kind of coverage). I can't believe they were buying time on a station that broadcasts Spanish-language religion (relay of KASA 1540? I believe they're co-owned), so I have to assume their claim is BS, regardless of what frequency they say they're on.

Found this still with the 1510 logo
http://listorious.com/KQCK1510
Their old Twitter account was twitter.com/KQCK1510

There was a : www.kqck1510.com which is down.

I don't live in the area; I just found this thread looking at the unread posts.
I am befuddled. If I tuned into 1510 AM on the radio that day I'd hear a financial show, not the medical marijuana show that was advertised. Or were they promoting a show that was on KFNN? Would they figure no one would actually tune in 1510? Something seriously does not add up

In San Tan Valley I've never heard anything on 1510. I listened to KQCK’s or K-Quack’s internet stream and have to say it is one of the worst programmed stations I have ever heard. It reminds me of very small town radio. Even the canned sweepers don’t say what station you’re listening to.

They have a van and a pickup wrapped with their logos you will see every once in a while.

I saw that a doctor from the new Florence-Anthem hospital is doing a show on the station. The hospital is telling everyone on their facebook page to listen to 1510 AM . I wonder if he knows he is not really “On the Air”?

In defense of Shon White, I found his website last week and liked the sound of his station with the exception of Jeff Straub for his imaging (like dragging nails on a chalk board). Pictures show his studio is a little out of whack though. With K-Quack selling ads on a false station probably makes it a little tough on him. I remeber when Shon had a top 40 format pirate station on in Apache Junction. I traced the signal to a duplex apartment several years ago. KRXS, now KRDE got mad at him for later simulcasting their station. Also I beleive he was part of a pirate station at 99.1 not too long ago.

One more thing… Is it weird that they say "Radio Station" after their name… “KQCK Radio Station”?

Well Straub does not do the imaging for Storm Country, only on the weather saying weather LOL. I am not going after ad dollars with Storm Country here in San Tan Valley, but seeing what KQCKlive.com is doing is just wrong. That would be like me putting 102.5 or 107.9 or 94.1 after our name and going out and selling ads locally. As far as the "Pirate" stuff in AJ, I recall that differently and never simulcasted KRXS. That was MANY MANY moons ago and back when Radio Berkley was in court challenging the FCC. Was interesting times, that movement helped create LPFM today. Think I was in my mid 20's LOL. I will say KQCXlive.com has removed all 1510 very quickly off their web and social media stuff. I believe strongly in protecting licensed stations, and using their signals for profit, and or interfering with them is unacceptable.

RC has some spendy attorneys on retainer for KFNN it shocks me how foolish people are apparently this person likes Florence quite a bit and has no clue what kind of trouble he's in for trying to presume the image of a real, licensed station.

He won't be there long if RC finds out.

I have personally emailed KFNN and know of others who have spoken to people there in the past and no response or action from KFNN. I am quite surprised really. I have one large business that has confirmed that KQCKlive approached them and said they were on 1510am so they setup a trade account with them under that assumption and have been doing such trade for over a year. Just amazed at how brazen KQCKlive has been in this whole 1510am scam and has been for years..

One of the posters said that KFNN has no signal in San Tan or wherever the area in question is. If so, it doesn't matter to KFNN. If KFNN does boom into that area, we have a problem. Apparently KQCKLive ran a part 15 on 1510 which is non-sensical if KFNN has a local signal and would have only a half mile or so even if the frequency is blank.

They have a great valley-wide signal (22,000 watts) during the day, but not at night, when they run 100 watts and their signal is inaudible in the southeast valley.

And are RC's lawyers-on-retainer going to explain why the KayFuNNsters allegedly
stay on daytime power for up to 45 min. past the monthly power drop time?

Sounds like a good way of building business for attorneys. Look there is a secret station broadcasting out of a gopher hole and Barney's Beanery is advertising there.

borderblaster said:
Are the "damages" worth even an hour of an attorney's time, really?

Well if the attorneys are being paid through a retainer agreement, they would get paid either way, regardless of the value of damages. If there was a contingency fee agreement, then the amount of damages would correlate to the cost of the attorney's fee.

Either way, KFNN should at least use those attorneys to write a cease and desist letter to Mr. Pirate. If Mr. Pirate continues to operate or claim to operate on the KFNN frequency to potential advertisers, then KFNN should pursue further legal action.

You think somebody would put a call into the FCC on this guy!

The FCC would have no jurisdiction unless he's actually operating a station there.

I was assuming, from various posts, that he was broadcasting in some sort of capacity, part 15 or not. Has anyone actually heard his station on 1510 AM down in San Tan Valley?
