This might be a real silly question, BUT....is there a way to listen to internet radio station's in your car? Through a cell phone maybe? There are plenty of internet stations I would like to listen to but a lot of the time I am in the car or on the go.

That doesn't count. I'm refering to receiver or computer related. Especially designed for a car like satellite.

I can't remember which, but one of the car manufacturers announced that it will be putting WiFi receivers into their cars in the next couple of years. In fact, we had a whole big discussion about it here: http://www.radio-info.com/mods/board?Post=653269&Board=community

Sure, and you are correct on that front, but the original post asked if you could use your cellphone to listen. And you can. It just isn't practical. Who would listen to the radio over the phone?<P ID="signature">______________

I listen to mine all day driving around with Verizon Broadband... Windows Media Player Mobile edition installed on my phone... and an FM transmitter: http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=166893
I set this little thing to 88.5... then set my car stereo to 88.5... and i have crystal clear internet radio coming through my car stereo... sounds better than Satellite radio.

I was even 20 miles out in the ocean on a deep sea fishing trip this weekend... listening to internet radio flawless.

I must of miss read that. That town I reside in will be set for Wimax in Sept. 07. I'm sure by then there might be a few good portable reveivers you can carry in the car within the city limits.

I never thought of using cell phones or broadband wireless for cell phones...because my cell phone carrier isn't set for it. Do they charge for minutes used with that , or can you use the broadband unlimited for receiving streamed music. At the moment, if they can come out with a my-fi- ipod version of internet wireless with 5.8 or 2.4 GHZ transmitters covering a metro gaps around the country...then were all in business.

They exist though are in the 2000-4000 range for in dash systems, seen it on Pimp My Ride. Also there is pocket tunes which is designed for certain cell phones and the Motorola I-radio is also a mobile posibility though a bit expensive right now. Also in cities that have city wide wireless you could plug your laptop into your stereo using a casette adapter, though wouldn't change stations while driving. I listened to my station for 2 miles once when there was I guess the equiv of FM skip and my home wireless network reached that far. Never have been able to duplicate the result.

Re: Technically...Yes

I've read that it's coming with wireless internet in some cities or via cell phone networks. The trick is to make a receiver you can tune while you drive without killing yourself.

I bought a gizmo a few years ago that let me tune pre-set internet audio streams and listen to them on the stereo in my den with a wireless connection to my computer upstairs in my home office. It was more trouble than it was worth and the company folded (so there was no way to update the pre-sets). It was an interesting idea and I'm surprised nobody's found a way to make it work for either home or car use.

Earlier this year i drove to Dallas from Memphis listening to my stream via my sprint ppc using bluetooth to a laptop..
I was on aim/yahoo/ and my stream the whole way.. i only lost total connection 2 times.. both times in SW Ark.

i could have just played it on my phone but i wanted to use the laptop and see how stable the connection would be.
I was extremely impressed.

I also streamed a remote from a live event for a few hours using the same setup which worked beautifully...
Streamed back to my home computer and made the cut-over remotely using VNC.
