Hello all!

We are going to be start receiving a show via an internet stream on our station. This show has DTMF Tones integrated. I need some help to figure out a what equipment to buy to make this show automated with our automation system. I've been told that i need a DTMF Decoder and an Audio Switcher to accomplish this automation.

What i want to do is the following:

At show start - (Send a trigger to stop computer automation and open the audio feed to air)

When we get a stop set trigger, Block the audio stream and play our local content.

At the end of our content, stop automation and open the audio stream to air.

They are sending 3 different tones.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

For starters...make SURE that the Internet stream is at a high enough rate that it has no swishy sounding audio (avoid anything less than 64K Mono or 128K Stereo) as DTMF decoders are picky...any audible artifacts in the stream will probably cause the DTMF decoding process to be iffy. That said, I'll step aside and let those who've done this talk specifics.

Is it imperative that you air this live? Your life would be much easier if you can download the program via an FTP and ingest.

Probably your best bet on touch-tone decoding would be from Circuitwerkes. About the only things about their system I really didn't care for is that their muting device used unballanced audio and falsed-muted every so often with the music program we were running. If you don't mind the tones getting out over the air, you could skip the muting step and all would work fine for you IMHO.

I had a couple of stations that ran a spanish format that used DTMF tones for triggers. I used a Barix Exstreamer 100 to receive the stream and I used a Broadcast Tools DTD-16 to decode the tones. It was on an AM station so I ran the Left Audio from the Barix to the console and I ran the Right Audio to the tone decoder. It wasn't the most glamorous setup, but hey... your running off an internet stream!

I'm not sure if ZaraRadio will do your magic, but it does recognize DTMF and will respond to 'line-in, line-out' commands.

Good luck finding it online and integrating with windows vista/7. XP likes it, though.
