Internet streaming - can't they get it together?

I'm listening to WOR's stream this morning. A Lottery spot is running in most breaks, preceded by a rather long slate!

OK, everyone makes mistakes, but when a mistake occurs on an Internet stream it tends to remain for days or weeks -- nobody's watching the store.

Among other generic stream annoyances are:

- Mismatched audio levels which make some streams unlistenable
- Repetitive commercials (if they can't get more advertisers, at least rotate some different copy!)
- Badly voiced commercials -- there's a guy who voices many of the StreamTheWorld drop-ins whose cadence is incredibly annoying, and sometimes his spots run three or four back-to-back. It's s total turn off.
- During light commercial periods (such as January) the same station "info" features are run over and over and over.

I think StreamTheWorld (the streaming service I hear most often) is responsible for much of this -- not the stations -- since it got worse when many stations outsourced their streams to them, but I'm not sure.

Any opinions or inside knowledge?

I usually listen to WFAN and WEPN on my blackberry and I have noticed the same annoying commercials. The repetitiveness makes online listening almost unbearable. Those constant CNET commercials, and the CBS commercials advertising the Big Bang Theory have not changed in 6 months.

You will hear the internet called the savior of radio and hear lots of lip service given to how importatnt it is but the reality is that they internet streams are run by non-radio folks. They are outsourced to firms run by salesmen and computer geeks who care little about content. Levels are a thing of the past, having the ability to edit audio or even to listen to it seems to be beyond most of those involved. I believe the operative phrase is, "you get what you pay for" and you do....
