Cable makes a resuegence after people realize they have to subscribe to so many streaming services to get their content, they're payinhg more than their old cable bill and writing 10 checks (or auto-withdrawals) instead of one.

There has already been some talk on Cord Cutters News about what could possibly happen in 2020:

Sony has already announced that Play Station Vue is shutting down, but there is still a possibility of a last minute buyer.

AT&T TV Now (Formerly DirecTV Now) Could be sold or shut down.

Hulu and You Tube TV could come out with smaller packages that would cost less.

On the subject of Paramount movies on CBS All Access, they could also add more movies on Pluto TV.

more problems for Youtube as they do more things to make their content makes leave for other video websites.

the streaming bubble finally bust at the end of 2020, as i mention in the TV predictions thread.

AT&T shuts down AT&T Now (FKA DirectTV Now) for poor sub rates.

This is more wishful thinking than anything: Major subchannels (Me TV, Antenna TV, etc.) will make their live feed available on streaming devices.

https://twitgoo.com/best-youtube-alternatives/

The debate on who will compete against Youtube is at play here.

11. DTube

After the recent explosion of cryptocurrency, it is safe to say that we all know that Blockchain is something that is slowly spreading, and has become the latest trend in the technology. The good news is that DTube is based on Blockchain and the good news is that it is a completely decentralized platform that serves as an excellent alternative for YouTube, and the interface is somewhat similar as well.

Users can easily browse through the hot, trending, as well as watched videos on their homepage. You have also the option to save the videos that you can watch later, as well as the option to check out the viral content from a list of trending tags.

One of the best parts about this website is that DTube is completely without ads, and it uses Steem blockchain to keep the records and users do not have to pay anything to start using this streaming service. Another great thing here is that if you upload videos on the platform, you will be rewarded with Steem cryptocurrency for seven days, and in addition to that, leaving comments on videos will also give you the chance to win. This is certainly a clever way of attracting the people.

However, since it is a relatively new platform, the video repository is on the lower side, and you might not find a lot of videos on the platform. It is still growing, and definitely has the potential to become one of the best alternatives to YouTube.

Pros

Completely ad free.
Based on Blockchain.
Users get cryptocurrency rewards for uploading videos, and leaving remarks
Familiar interface.

Cons

Not enough videos.
Cannot rival the giant that is YouTube.

12. IGTV

Instagram took everyone by surprise when they launched their own streaming platform called IGTV. Now the thing is that this video platform is a lot different as it offers vertical videos that are pretty long in length; needless to say, these videos were specifically created to be watched on smartphones. As of right now, you can only use the app to watch the videos, however, you can upload your own through the desktop. If you already have an Instagram account, the IGTV can be accessed right away, and free of cost.

Users can simply go ahead and follow different channels that they prefer, or they can even browse through the feed that will show you all the content that is going to be based on your preferences. For content creators, IGTV is really great, and you can show your content to a larger audience since you do not have to punch in a URL, search the video you want to watch, and then watch it. IGTV is certainly going places.

Pros

Great for watching videos on smartphone.
Readily available to every Instagram users.
Great for making short or longer videos.

Cons

Cannot upload videos from the app.
The vertical aspect ratio is not for everyone.

The Disney/ Nexflix dispute over employee poaching will continue into 2020.

Fox drops two of its three claims against the streaming giant.
Disney's Fox unit has dropped two interference claims against Netflix. The move, made official in court papers filed Dec. 24, represents something other than a Christmas gift for the streamer whose recruitment of entertainment executives under contract set off a high-stakes legal battle. Instead, Fox's dropped claims all but guarantees there will be no trial in January. The two companies are likely to move to the appellate stage sooner rather than later.

Fox sued back in September 2016 upon the flight of production executive Tara Flynn and marketing executive Marcos Waltenberg. Netflix responded with a countersuit alleging that the executives' respective Fox employment contracts were unenforceable under California laws forbidding contracts that extended beyond seven years of personal service or restrained someone from engaging in a profession.

Here is one thats at play in 2020.

U.S. regulators are being urged to look beyond Google and Facebook to review how Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and others are leveraging consumer habits as a competitive weapon in the digital entertainment war.

Movie box office. TV ratings. Say what you will about the reliability of entertainment consumption metrics, but for decades, what people watched was hardly hush-hush. Then subscription video streamers came along. Now, massive data is collected about viewing habits but is disclosed only at the discretion of the companies sucking it up. Netflix says it will become more transparent in 2020. But will it? And who knows if the numbers it releases are inaccurate or misleading? How much should the rest of Hollywood care about transparency?

Well, consider that less than two years ago, Time Warner's then-CEO Jeff Bewkes took the witness stand during a trial where the U.S. government attempted to block his company's merger with AT&T. Bewkes pointed to Amazon, Netflix, YouTube and Facebook before explaining that these companies "know more about our consumers than we do." The merger was justified, he explained, because digital giants possessed something that one of Hollywood's biggest media companies sorely needed — data. "The more you know about viewers, the more it informs your programming," he said. "It helps you understand how to optimize."

The Battle for who can get the most members of Generation Z will be at play and so far Tik Tok and Facebook O&O's such as Lasso, Instagram are named as some of the parties so far as of 2020 to fight for this demo.

https://www.mcsaatchiperformance.com/news/reaching-gen-z-the-rise-of-tiktok/

https://www.mobilemarketer.com/news...ith-music-sharing-in-stories-profiles/540537/

By the end of 2019, Generation Z will have overtaken Millennials in numbers and will make up 32% of the global population. As Gen Z become more prominent consumers, holding an incredible $100 billion in buying power, it is essential for brands to be able to reach and engage with this age group. This means constantly updating your marketing strategies to ensure brands are remaining present on the most relevant places in the digital sphere.

Unlike customer groups that came before them, Generation Z have grown up in a world entirely internet dependent, leading to their significantly different online behaviour. They are consistently active online on more than one device, stream on average 23 hours of video every week, are more receptive to personalisation, and have been able to monetise their creativity more efficiently than generations before them. This is a different type of user with a different type of demand and they are driving innovation in the social space with companies all fighting for their attention.

One such platform is TikTok – a social short-form video app from China. Having only launched in 2016, TikTok had a quick adoption and swiftly became the world’s most valuable start-up. Having recently surpassed 1 billion downloads from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store combined and boasting near 800 million monthly active users, TikTok is showing no signs of slowing down.

Industry giants are already sensing the threat and are beginning to build TikTok clones of their own. Facebook launched its own version called ‘Lasso’ quietly in the USA, just before Christmas, to attract more Gen Z’s to its platform.

Twitch: Where your kid’s favorite celebrity goes live

Twitch, an online live-streaming platform owned by Amazon, gained traction within the gaming community by allowing users to watch famous gamers play live and comment on the action.

At first blush, it seems far-fetched to think anyone would spend hours watching others play video games. Yet more than 14.6 million people follow Fortnite player Tyler “Ninja” Blevins to watch him do just that. And that fame didn’t exist only within the Twitch community: Ninja has become a mainstream celebrity, sharing his Fortnite highlights with his 14.8 million followers on Instagram.

While video games like Fortnite have fueled its popularity, Twitch has grown to include more than just gaming streams. The site now hosts a variety of live streaming categories, ranging from Talk Shows & Podcasts, to ASMR to Food & Drink. However, its most popular non-video game category is “Just Chatting,” where viewers come to chat with streamers in real time.

Twitch is thriving in large part because of the personalized streamer-viewer relationship its live streams create—a connection most sites don’t offer. As Twitch continues to broaden its offerings, it is poised to become even more mainstream in the future.

Twitch has been named as a TV Outlet for Gen Z. Yes Twitch is like YouTube, Vimeo, and Dailymotion but for a younger audience.
