Internet VO Casting Sites

Hi Everyone!

My subscription to Voice123 is almost up and I'm questioning renewing it.

My impression of that site has been, too many voices, not enough jobs.
By the time I've had time to submit a demo, there are 200 in front of me, already submitted for the job.

Is there a good Internet VO casting site anyone can recommend?

Thanks!

www.voices.com is another. Not much better though in that there are 83,000 talents listed. I have only gotten one gig in two years, and funny enough I DIDN'T audition for that one.

I've gotten a few jobs (maybe 7 or 8) from voices.com. One in particular has turned
into a lot of repeat business.

If you really want to make money in VO, and are talented, I'd say
spend $1000 per year on online vo sites. $1000 per year to market
yourself is really not that much.
Then, be selective about what you audition for. If you're good, it will pay off.
Certainly it will pay for itself.

Good luck.

I use Voice 123 fairly regularly to find specific voice types but I NEVER issue blanket casting calls. It would take more time to go through all of them than to scan through and find 3 or 4 voices that meet my requirements and request auditions. I have not used voices.com.

Just a note to those who do post there: Please introduce yourself in your own normal voice. Because if in the first 5 seconds your voice doesn't sound like what I'm looking for, I'm gone.

I see you are working on your own website Liz. When it's done, you also might take some of that $$$ and buying things like post cards or other marketing tools and sending them out to business as well as small agencies and marketing firms in your area. Sometimes there's a goldmine right under your feet if you just dig for it.

I use V123, voices and a few others - but honestly the ROI is about the same on all of them. Each has more than paid for itself (I average one or two a month from each service). But on line services are a small part of my marketing. I use e-mail marketing, on line advertising, a newsletter, and have a two agents... best advice about using these services comes from Bill - being selective in what you audition for.

My best to you,

Tom

I use V123 as well and have snagged a few gigs in the seven months I've signed for the service. What is the secret to being selective? I have submitted 80 audtions. Is that too much? I won't apply for something that is too low in price or does't fit my delivery.

Remaster, I think that's the best way to approach any audition service: I only audition for projects that are a good fit, and only if there's enough money in the project to make it worthwhile. I'll go a little cheaper if it's likely to turn into repeat business, but not by much. I feel like I charge fairly, and if that's too expensive for them, maybe next time. We ain't crankin' out a cold read and calling it good here. I charge for a thoughtful, calculated, besteverytime performance.

Plus we've all got that lovely equipment to pay for. When I first started seriously doing voiceovers in '90, it was customary to charge separately (and additionally) for studio time. But the plethora of disc jockies bumming the radio station's equipment -- and easy access to talent over the internet -- have made that a thing of the past for voice-track only production.

Let's try not to shoot ourselves in the foot if we can help it.

JJ
