Into the Night with Rick Dees

Does anyone remember this show? Ran on ABC after Nightline somewhere btwn Mid 80's- early 90's? Where can I find info on this show?

I vaguely remember this show. I think it was on around 1990-91. For a long time, NBC was the dominant force in late-night talk shows, with the Tonight Show and Tomorrow (with Tom Snyder) and later, Late Night with David Letterman. Then around 1989 or so, CBS and ABC decided to launch talk shows; CBS had the short-lived "Pat Sajak Show" followed by the even shorter-lived "Midnight Hour" (which aired in the 12:40 time slot), and ABC had "Into The Night". I guess the idea was that Dees' success in radio would somehow translate into a successful TV show, which wasn't the case.

I think he had Styx as one of the musical guests around this time. This was around the time of the Tommy Shaw-less revival (Glen Burtnick filled in). My sister was a big Glen Burtnick fan, and I think she taped the show. Since the album was released in 1990, I'm assuming "Into The Night" went on the air around 1990 and was probably off the air no later than the end of 1991.

I also remember I was glad when "Midnight Hour" went off the air, because CBS replaced it with reruns of "The Prisoner".

I remember Entertainment Tonight's Lisa Canning was the announcer on the Dees show...

As far as bad late night shows... come on now... we are all in agreement that that dubious dishonor goes to Chevy Chase, with Joan Rivers a close second?

What about the train wreck that was the Chevy Chase show on FOX? :(

...Chase was merely incompetent. Rivers, Wally George and Rush Limbaugh were all downright repulsive...

Wow I forgot all about Chevy Chase amd Magic's show.....Magic did the worst interviews..I mean the whole show always seemed like on giant SNL bit and the special guest host WAS Magic!!!! As far as Joan Rivers goes the infant FOX show was horrible...but back in '86 I believe FOX was just trying to cash in on Rivers since at the time she was Johnny Carson's primary fill in when he needed some R&R.

Which brings up another point I've been thinking about lately, not since Carson, that you see Late night talk hosts taking time off like that anymore I think the closest we can come to that is with Regis and Kelly where I believe Rege has it in his contract the he gets Friday's or every other Friday off or at least something to that effect.

I went through some old VHS tapes I had since the early 90's and found some of the old Arsenio Hall shows on there. I used to watch his shows quite regularly back then but as I sat and watched it again 17 yrs later...I realized that...that show was not the best show put together either....I mean the dog pound?...and the "these are the people who think that Sgt Bilko was really in the Army" section or whatever the flavor of the day was..really quite corny! IMO

Finally, are theere any other shows that just tanked the minute they hit the air? I know Sajak's show was just an utter mess although he does do better in the AM than at LAte Night. I thnk the George Hamilton and Alaina show that ran a few years back was another juggernaut...I did however enjoy the show " THE OTHER SIDE" with Dick Clark, Danny Bonaduce, Mario Lopez, and that other guy can't think of his name...the show was decent but didn't last long?

Any other thoughts?

Since we've mentioned mornings shows, how about Living It Up! with Ali and Jack , an attempted Regis and Kelly clone hosted by Alexandra Wentworth and Jack Ford. Wikipedia says it aired from Sept 03 to August 04 and was the lowest rated syndicated show for the 03-04 season.
