Introducing TheRolyPoly

Hello, y'all. I've been in the forums for a while, but there was never a way to introduce myself, but here we go...

My name is Roly, a.k.a. TheRolyPoly. I'm 26 years old and I live in South Florida.

I've been a broadcasting aficionado for a very long time. My first memories of watching TV were back in 2003 I believe watching Smackdown... on UPN (which would've been WBFS 33 here). I've been watching local news ever since, first as a fan of WTVJ in 2004. But, since 2005, I've been a superfan and a religious follower of WSVN 7 (there's where my default pic comes from).

But ever since then, I've been researching, looking up TV and radio stations, and observing and gathering all that information and kept it in my brain. But also... it has lead me to various rabbit holes in the world of broadcasting, and have met various friends, not just from here but from another forum that focuses on TV, and have even made friends with folks who are currently in the broadcasting industry today (both TV and radio too).

I am very obsessed with broadcasting and technology and you'd know it, just from walking into my room when I have a laptop, a Samsung 4K UHD TV, Stream Deck, RODECaster Pro, RODE PodMic, RODE PSA1 Boom Mic, Shure MV7 mic, plenty of lavalier mics, a Zoom Portable Mic, a Shure MV88+ audio/video kit, two headphones (a Sony wireless one and a Sony Professional one), five different radios (AM/FM/HD x2 - one's Retro Mini, another from Sangean, AM/FM/WX from Midland, Internet Radio, and SiriusXM-only), three different audio speakers (a Sony, a Marshall, and a Bose), a Roku Streaming Stick, a TiVo Stream 4K, a Chromecast with Google TV, a Google Nest Hub, a Time clock, a 1080p Logitech webcam, a Logitech keyboard, a smartwatch, an iPad mini, two wireless earbuds, and of course, a smartphone.

Oh, and I also have several different broadcasting-related books. One about WPVI (50 years of Action News), another about ABC News (75 years as a news organization), another about NBC (history of the network), the 2022 World Radio-TV Handbook, the 2022 Worldwide Listening Guide, some C-SPAN swag (including a Congressional Directory), two related to NPR (Sound Reporting and the Podcast Startup Guide). I also have several writing utilities from The New York Times and a Whole House 3.0 FM Transmitter, plus some Reporter's Notebook notepads, and a handful of pens that I don't use much but I honestly should.

I also have every radio app you can think of on my phone and tablet, plus I subscribe to SiriusXM (Streaming Platinium) and will soon subscribe to DI.FM's Plantium plan too (which will give me that, Zen Radio, RadioTunes, and their other services).

I know, it sounds like I'm giving away everything I own, but I really am serious with my obsessions and passions.

Oh, and I'm currently the founder of three separate publications: Changing Newscasts (blog, Twitter, Facebook), Public Media Fans (Twitter only), and the SeriousXM newsletter that's all about SiriusXM (newsletter and Twitter).

For a year too, as part of an immersion experience at the University of Florida, I was also an on-air presenter at their Top 40 CHR radio station, GHQfm (95.3 W237EJ Gainesville). I was a host for three hours every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday plus did a two-hour EDM show on Saturdays (yes, it meant sometimes airing EDM music while seeing folks walk away from a Gators Football game during the season outside their former street-front studios). The latter has actually now led to the station now airing Electronic Currents (from 90.3 WGTE Toledo) on Sundays from 10:00 p.m.-12:00 a.m. I felt like I left a legacy behind while taking advantage of an awesome opportunity.

I've attended the Connecticut School of Broadcasting (technical school) and received a diploma. I'm still looking for a job in broadcasting, but its currently hard to find one right now.

Outside of all of this, I love surfing the net for more research on broadcasting (not a surprise), listening to EDM music, listening to my favorite morning radio show, and watching plenty of sports whenever I can, including baseball, basketball, football (pro and college for all three), hockey, soccer, rugby, darts, auto racing (though not much), bowling, and billiards. I love watching and listening to them, whenever I can.

I love talking to everyone who loves broadcasting just as much as I do and I'm very happy to be here. Apologies if I rambled on too long. Lol. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks!
