Introducing Topic Tags

We're in the process of adding tags to posts within the state (and a few other) boards. Right now they're in place in about a dozen boards and we will be adding more as time allows.

For the boards where the tags are activated, you will be required to add a prefix to help specify the part of the region your subject is about. These tags will help work as sub-categories and potentially guide whether certain tags need to be promoted to separate boards.

If there's a tag you think needs to be added to a certain board, report your post or privately message me and we will make the determination whether to add one. The last thing we want to do is overload each board with lists of tags, so please keep that in mind.

Assistance is needed in the Assistance Aisle.
Forgive the naivete here, Lance, Negin, others: I'm just a non-techie DXer and an ex-radio jocko who knows only from a few tubes and lots of wires. I graduated from a high school that had 'Technical' in its official name, but the 1965 'tech' bears flimsy association with today's meaning of 'tech'.
Perhaps someone might provide information to me (and others?) what a 'tag' is, what it looks like, what it's for and why it's necessary?
I'm sure the implementation of tags is an astute move. Maybe even a crucial or imperative one for keeping things flowing. But I'm completely in the dark about their reason, usage and the side effects. Can some help here when they have time?
(Tag -- you're it! :) )

Well, @Steve Green NEPA, I was going to post a screen shot of what the tag looks like, but it appears my blue button with "attach files" on it, has done the disappearing act. At least, I can't see it on the mobile version now. Was directly below, and left, of the box that I am typing in. I'm just noticing the loss of the attachment feature.

Basically, if you create a new topic on a board where this has been activated, you will need to select a tag from a dropdown menu next to choose what's basically a sub-category.

Nothing has changed. It may be simply a feature created because this board is for staff announcements only.

Only took three days for someone to notice, which I think kinda proved my original point too :)
That's strange. I've been on the site the past few days and just saw the Markets tonight. Maybe it took a few days to populate through people's bookmarks, watch list, etc.

So grateful to have the top markets back. It was really hard to find the cities embedded deep inside the regions. Thanks for bringing it back!

I spotted the change yesterday, a few hours after sending my (overly long) reply to your private message. I think it looks good this way, and if the goal is engagement then it should help. Appreciate it, Lance!
