ION Channel Rerun Network?

What is the problem with the ION channel when it comes to movies? I know they are a rerun-based network, but they have been repeatedly airing the same handful of films for the past six months, or more, such as "Tango and Cash", "the Panic Room" and a few others. If they are going to schedule movies, why can't they show something different or just pull the plug on everything? I think my wife is one of the three people in the whole world watching that garbage.

To say nothing of the craptacular picture and sound quality. A few years ago, I watched the adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather on Ion. It quickly became obvious that Ion had simply blown up the widescreen presentation to eliminate the letterbox effect, as characters were half-off the screen on my 4:3 TV. Also, I had to turn the sound up to hear anything -- and turn it back down during commercial breaks.

And they also show usually show the same film three times over two days on weekends, once on Friday and two more times on Saturday, back-to-back.

That's almost like... a cable channel.

Gee, maybe Ion should dump its O&O stations and affiliates and move entirely to cable. Then maybe they could afford more original programming. Heck, selling all of their O&O stations would keep them running for quite a while.

Except that if they sell their stations, they end up losing the leverage that comes with a must-carry status. Regular cable channels can simply be dropped, but a local station with a must-carry status can't.
