ION Television coming to KWQC 6.2 Davenport

From Northpine:

Media General's KWQC-TV (Davenport) says it'll begin carrying Ion TV on channel 6.2 on Nov. 1, displacing a local weather channel. The station is a primary NBC affiliate and also carries Cozi TV on channel 6.3. KWQC appears to be only the second station nationwide to carry Ion on a subchannel, and one of only a few Ion affiliates that isn't owned and operated by the network. Ion carries reruns of recent network shows.

Northpine had a link to an article on KWQC's site, but it led to a 404 error page. A similar article I found just said that 6.2 was changing its format "to offer our viewers more entertainment options."

RabbitEars is saying that ION is also coming to Mobile AL via another MG station, WKRG 5.2. Do you think MG struck a deal with ION to put the network on subchannels of MG stations in markets without an ION station?

On one hand, ION's programming is probably at least as good as many digital subchannels. And I'm also a little impressed that ION is still even trying to add affiliates at this stage of the game, because I had assumed they didn't actively market it anymore. On the other hand, what does it buy the local stations and ION? ION already has pretty decent cable/satellite carriage. Perhaps these are markets that they want to leverage the parent X.1 network's affiliation in order to get ION's .2 carried on cable? I'd also be interested to know if MG gets to sell ads or otherwise cover the ION network schedule with anything (newscasts, or reruns of newscasts at off times, for example) - or is ION doing a straight time buy of 24/7 carriage?

Looks like it-- I found one station in MA and one in AL (both owned by Media General) that now have Ion (according to Wikipedia). And titantv.com states that it could also be in Wichita...
