iPod playlist/shuffle-themed weekends?

Here in Arizona, KZZP (104.7 Kiss-FM) in Phoenix and KRQQ (93.7 KRQ) in Tucson (both owned by CC) are having iPod-themed weekends.

On Kiss, they are calling it "iKISS" - directing listeners to their Website to fill out a form with 15 songs they want to hear. The listeners submit the playlist - some of the playlists make it onto the air.

On KRQ, I think they are just saying that they have their playlist "on shuffle", but that definitely implies "iPod Shuffle". It was very interesting to hear Mariah Carey "Can't Let Go" and Deep Blue Something "Breakfast at Tiffany's" back to back earlier today!

It's so interesting how popular the word "shuffle" has become ever since iPods hit it big.

Any other CHR's (especially CC CHR's) doing something similar for the long holiday weekend?

Tanim,
Long time buddy. Hope all is well.
I haven't paid too much attention to Top 40 radio this weekend yet, but I do know that at this time of the year (July 4th Weekend) stations like 93.7 STW Wilmington air their Freedom 500 Countdown.

I wish iKiss was on KRQ. At least I get the shuffle!

I love STW. They are indeed one of those great CHR stations. Hope to check out their list of this years Freedom 500 when they post it ...

Anyway, 99.3 WHKS Kiss FM has the iDrive at 5. Go online to their website, choose 5 songs that are not necessary on your iPod persay, but that you want to hear. They spin it like the iPod. I haven't heard the iDrive at 5, but hope to soon will. I hate working late.

Not radio related, but there are now clubs that offer iPod theme nights. You bring 3 songs on your iPod and the DJ then plays them over the sound system. It creates a wild, interesting mix of music.

Wow, that actually sounds like a pretty bad idea...unless you're seriously really f**ked up on amphetamines LOL.

Picture this
Kenny G. "Silouhette"
Michael Bolton "When A Man Loves A Woman"
Bette Midler "The Rose"

then...
Pantera "Cowboys From Hell"
Megadeath "Hangar 18"
Skid Row "Youth Gone Wild"

into...
Britney Spears "Hit Me Baby One More Time"
Backstreet Boys "Everybody"
Theme to Sesame Street

into...
Josh Wink vs. Lil Louis "How's Your Evening So Far"
M Beat Feat. General Levy "Incredible"
Legend B. "Lost In Love"

LOL.....Count me out.....Remind me never to go to that club, sounds kinda scary to me.

Ah, but that's not what happens. What you get is a huge mix of new stuff and music you haven't heard. It's not something that works in a night club, but in a theme lounge, it's a great idea. Typical, if you hang at a certain club, you probably have reasonably similiar tastes to everyone else. But you've got the input of everyone, rather than just 1 DJ.

And for some, the bizarre works. Up here in Waterloo, we are graced with CharlesS, perhaps the most bizarre DJ in the country. He looks like the singer from ZZ Top, owns a record store that has completely obscure music, and does theme nights. I've seen the guy pull mixes which included Car Wash from Rose Royce into some wierd punk stuff into ....On Top of Old Smokey. No one batted an eye, no one got up and left. In fact, the place is usually packed when he's spinning.

It's an excellent idea for people that dig different genres of music.
