I'm just scanning the airwaves and I notice not one local television station in Western Ontario is doing live coverage of the release of the Ipperwash inquiry conclusions. Now I was out for a bit and CFPL had promoted during A-Channel Morning that they would have coverage at 10 AM, but they now have Ellen and live coverage continues on CTV Newsnet and CBC Newsworld. Haven't found anything on Global, CBC, CKCO, or CHCH. CBC and CKCO are running network programming, Global has a World Vision infomercial, and CHCH has Open Homes. The top of the hour just passed and nobody even had a news update.
Major stories like this should NOT require viewers to have cable or satellite to get any televised coverage. If a major story like this happened in the United States, all network affiliate stations would be running wall-to-wall coverage.
And the same goes for when there are severe storm warnings. Canadian broadcasters, in short, are just too cheap to care. The bottom line in Toronto is more important than public service. Automation and master controls up to 2000 km away have taken over this country.
