IQ 106.9 is Great

IQ 106.9 ... News, Weather, and Traffic updates 24/7, Beck, Rush, Hannity, Levin, live debates, and a good local morning show with Lionel and Al Gardner. Nothing should change if they get sold. It's much better than KYW and WPHT. How much longer will it be before WPHT flips to Death Metal?

If they can improve on some things, this could be this generation's WCAU-AM, in terms of the news/talk format.

it only sounds comprehensive. It's inaccurate for the most part, and non-local at that. That station will never be more than a 2 share. Why would KYW want that? Keep drinking the kool-aid

Only sounds comprehensive? Love people on the Internet who feel the need to crap on things just to be negative. The morning show is extremely entertaining. Lionel is just that little bit of crazy that makes things interesting. Al Gardner and Lionel are a perfect duo. Al Gardner really offsets Lionel, and together it sounds like two friends having a chat. What specifically is inaccurate and non- local? Just saying something doesn't make it true.

Sorry, I see no comparison, WCAU-AM in its talk days had a large 24 hour news team backed up by CBS, the Phillies, and a full lineup of live & local talk show hosts of national reputation that gave their opinions but held real debate on the issues with callers, not 'preaching to the choir' syndicated shows where the callers either kiss up to the hosts or are pre-screened oppposition for the hosts to argue with, rehashing the same talking points day nafter day. People of all political views listened to and respected the WCAU hosts because all sides of the topics were aired & discussed (and in the era of civil rights & Vietnam, these were devisive issues). Even the local late night shows were top quality - Jack McKinney's Night Talk, Bill Corsair's Rascals. 106.9 will not be 'this generations' because the hosts are aimed at an older-demographic, probably many who listened to WCAU and WWDB. Except for some active conservative young adults, talk radio is not on the radar for most young people, other than sports talk. Before 1975 KYW was news & WCAU news/talk and everyone else was music. Today there are so many other choices for conservative talk variations - 560, 990, 1180, 1210, 1440, plus NPR news/talk on 90.9, you can't build an audience like WCAU had. WCAU had a 'full service' quality to it, there is really nothing there at 106.9 for anyone who is not ultra-conservative to bother tuning in for.

John 1 hit the nail on the head. WCAU-AM was a great talk station. WWIQ isn't.

Years ago talk show hosts were objective, cordial and discerning. If they didn't like what a Republican did, they'd say and the next day would blast a Democrat. I remember when they first allowed Rush Limbaugh on WWDB-FM - It was a sad time. Couldn't understand how they allowed talk shows like his on radio. Now it's more easily understood as Limbaugh is an employee of Premier Radio Networks which is owned by Clear Channel which is owned by Bain Capital which is part of the corrupt world banking system.
(watch Max Keiser dot com).

Fortunately, the owners of WPHT ( CBS) realize that allowing the prophets of propaganda on the air leaves nothing to be gained especially locally and are choosing to rid themselves of the pied pipers of mass manipulation for the good of the banking empire.

Clear Channel was able to effectively squash opposition to our many wars by black listing groups that opposed the wars like Dixie Chicks. No opposition from the music industry means the wars go on without real opposition bringing in big money to the banking interests that fund the US war machine. I hope no one ever forgets that the strong opposition to Vietnam was led by music groups like Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, Rolling Stones, Marvin Gaye and many others. Today many of the middle class are a manipulated group that just don't understand that shows like Limbaugh and Hannity are really not about entertainment but have a real purpose of changing your mindset.

Lionel is great. Mendte's good. Overnights are alright.

Just really holding out hope for that 9-1 slot.

Something... ANYTHING listenable... please?

I have to say it was nice to have an FM station carrying the debate last night. TV was occupied (by my toddler), AM sounds horrible, internet streaming is still kind of a PITA (though if FM wasn't available, I would have streamed it from KYW's online stream).

90.9 WHYY-FM has been airing the debates.

I should have thought of that but I didn't, either last night while listening or today while posting. I guess that says something about where WHYY is in my consciousness.

But they didn't count on competition taking their anchor show, Limbaugh, away.
Fortunate for who? Listeners go elsewhere, ratings fall, format changes. Goodbye WPHT, all because CBS is too cheap to get some decent hosts. Their syndicated hosts were by far the best they had (perhaps save Dom), and thy tossed them. Adios.

Get a web radio. Program the memories, punch up a station. Everything of decent bandwidth sounds as good or better than FM. WNTP, which ran all the debates, sounds just like any FM. And WNTP online runs the regular talk schedule even when Salem rents 990AM out for sports. A good analog battery radio is essential for emergencies, but its becoming superfluous for daily listening outside of the car.

Wow, reality must really cramp your style. I believe the station has overtaken its competition. And they haven't even marketed yet. Haters have a hard time with facts. Look at the numbers.

Is there a chance that 106.9 will pick up Michael Savage for 9-12? Hannity and Levin are Cumulus (although Premiere does Hannity's ads apparently. Someone will know this better). Cumulus is Savage's new home plus he would be live and not tape-delayed like he was on WNTP.

I still think that they should return the first Beck hour at 9am even if it played on tape delayed later (say midnight to 1am?). I have reactivated my Sirius account so I don't miss it.

I like that FoxNews was added and as it flows better with the current programming.

Never thought much of a station that is either all Conservative or all Liberal. Both sides should be represented. This would also help in drawing listeners from both sides to the station. WWDB had both sides represented. The stations that call themselves "Talk Stations", if you have an opposing opinion, you are given 10 seconds to make your comment, and when the host gives their response, you are cut off. I always thought the whole concept of a Talk Show was to have a debate, an exchange of ideas...not just the hosts opinions represented. It's as if they don't have much faith in their hosts positions, after all, you can't have the host losing a debate, that would kill ratings.

IQ has beat PHT in one monthly rating period.

The real test will be revenue. Has much money is IQ making?

They can get a 2.5 6+ rating, but it doesn't mean a thing if they're not making money.

How many local commercials (non-network) do you hear on the station? That's the real test of whether the investors who back up Merlin/Randy Michaels will decide to keep the station.
