New A.M. Anchor
At WFSB
It was no surprise, given her perky a.m. personality. And her extra-wide grin this week told the tale even before it was officially announced.
Irene O'Connor is the new morning news co-anchor at WFSB, Channel 3.
"I am so thrilled to be part of the morning team," said O'Connor, who took over the co-anchor seat Monday. "I feel like the morning people are part of my family. It's great."
Born in Hartford, O'Connor, known for her Irish step-dancing skills, was raised in West Hartford and graduated from Northwest Catholic High School. She is also a graduate of Northeastern University.
"Irene's contacts in the local community yield us some great exclusive stories and help us uncover story details nobody else has," said the station's news director, Dana Neves. "She is never afraid to call in a tip or offer assistance to other folks when she can."
O'Connor, who shares the a.m. heavy lifting with Mike Hydeck, joined WFSB in 2005 as the weekend anchor and reporter. She began filling the morning slot on a temporary basis after the December departure of morning anchor Dawn Hasbrouck.
O'Connor, 39, lives in Hartford with her husband, Matt Fleury, vice president of the Connecticut Science Center. She has previously worked at television stations in Denver and Providence.
