Iron Pigs

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs have officially announced that all 144 games during their inaugural 2008 season will be broadcast live on the IronPigs Radio Network. WXLV 90.3 FM, located on the campus of Lehigh Carbon Community College (Schnecksville, Pa.) will serve as the “Flagship Station.” All broadcasts will also air on HD Radio on ClearChannel Broadcasting’s WZZO 95.1 HD-2, which will serve as the “Digital Home of the IronPigs.”

Absolutely ridiculous! Who will commentate? Burr Beard? Ha! Ha! Actually why not Burr Beard and Phil Stahl?

It's a real good fit. ESPN Radio carries the Yanks, 1470 carries the Phillies. So there was really no one left, strong signal too. I wonder who they are looking at for play by play and color ?

that's not right. what college station? WGPA should have picked them up.

That would be great for the first two innings until the transmitter gets shut down.

What I'm wondering is how is non-comercial WXLV going to get things like "Thank you for joining us live from Coca-Cola Park!" and not giving any other sports team in the Lehigh Valley equal access to their air waves is past the FCC?

not to be a downer... but does it really matter??? i mean .. isn't this just gonna be another futile effort by the lehigh valley to have a decent sports team here that just ends up getting poor community support again?? and not to mention that gets poorly marketed and managed by the owners again?? i'll give u some examples.... old hess'... remember we were supposed to have an ahl hockey affiliate ??? then all of a sudden we had "sink hole" issues where the arena was supposed to be built.. now there is a georgeous office complex instead??? guess office complexes are immune to sink holes but not hockey arenas??hmmm.. then i give u the ambassadors and valley dogs.. ambassadors were a debacle in miss management.. promotions on tv to come to the games.. but no coverage.. or at least no mention of it. the valley dogs.. the did a great job advertising thier coach, (dd ... wonderfully nice guy btw) but not their talent.. we had Randy Moss, controversial and constantly in the news, playing on the team for a season.. and the only reason people found out about it was caus espn ran a story about it at the end of the season???? so as far as lcc getting the broadcast rights.. bravo.. should help bring in more ad revenue for a local community college that can use the money to improve its education standards in the communications field. i hope they put it to good use.. but i also hope they enjoy it while it lasts.. .. worst thing in all this is we voted for the name iron pigs... what the heck were we thinkin??? lol

The reason other teams in recent years have not been supported is because they were third rate franchises. The Iron Pigs are in a true, legitimate, AAA, Minor League organization just below the Major League level. People will have the opportunity to see players on their way to the Majors. Many of them will become stars. The players will not only be Iron Pigs but other players on opposing teams. In addition when a ML player is recovering from injury he could rehab in AAA. There's plenty of baseball fans in the area. They may not all be Phillies fans but even so people will come out just to see some quality pro ball. This is totally different than watching jabronies play 3rd rate b-ball in a high school gym! Or in the case of baseball, better than watching garbage players with no Major League affiliations playing in Bicenntenial Park. As was the case with Allentown Ambassadors. That was low quality has been or never was-never will be junk ball!

Just another example of Lehigh Carbon Community College trying to milk WXLV for all it's worth. They just don't learn...maybe another FCC fine, this time for underwriting violations, will wake them up...

i would like to hope your right pickle.. but just remember.. were a bunch of old sour krautz that don't like change in this area. perfect example... not so jolly joe. so multiply him by thousands and then re-evaluate whether it lasts.

Im basing my optimism on the younger generation and people who may have migrated here from Philly and NY/NJ/CT. Otherwise you may be right. The old halupkie eating farts will just stay home and watch Jeopardy!
