Ironic call sign at recent AAR affil

I must have missed this, as they've been onboard for close to a month, but I found it interesting that Air America's new North Carolina affiliate is maintaining it's WEED calls. So first we get KLSD, now this. Interesting.

Nothing political about the statement.

Maybe they could get on KRAK-AM. They've been killing off a lot of oldies stations lately.

WEED, KLSD, KOKE...and...now...the KING himself:

KING 1090 in Seattle - once a thriving local liberal station, now air america and progressive talk as "Seattle's Progressive Talk, AM 1090...KPTK Seattle."

Despite the call letter change, 1090 is STILL THE KING!

They changed KING's calls for some incomprehensible reason, so it doesn't count.

I have to think someone at AAR's affiliate relations department is making a sly little joke by signing up WEED, KLSD, and KOKE. If there was a KILO-AM in Colorado Springs, it would have probably been included, too.

KRAK wouldn't make much sense, since it's within KTLK's coverage area. If AAR comes to Victor Valley/Hesperia, it'd probably be on KIXW-960, a CC station that carries the same Premiere hosts as KFI, which is already the dominant talker in the market.

AAR already has an affiliate in Victor Valley -- KSZL AM 1230.

The KING broadcasting empire originally owned by the Bullitts consisted of KING-AM, KING-FM, and KING-TV 5. KING-FM and KING-TV still exist under KING.

Here's the master list of progressive talk call stations, Air America and otherwise (right lower sidebar)!

How about some poetry stringing some of these call letters together? Go for it!

WHAT that, man? Oh My (KOMY)...WEED? WTAR in your lungs, don't do it man!

You'll get WMCS (multiple chemical sensitivities)!

Man, you need to preserve your lung capacity for climbing the Great Pyramid in KIRO!

Or, the Alaskan hikes next August near WJNO (Juneau)!

(OK...this is off topic...off the air board?)

The family also set up a foundation that operates KING-FM.
I believe the terms of the sale required the AM change calls
to break any perceived tie with the foundation and the
quasi-public KING-FM. I don't believe it was left to the
choice of the new ownership.<P ID="signature">______________
