Impressive list. Thanks for posting. What stood out to me is that most of the Milwaukee FMs made it to your location, but nothing from Chicago or the area between the two cities. Probably because most of the Milwaukee FMs run higher power from the TV towers on the north side of town.

I am told that at 32000 feet, Chicago FMs are buried by Detroit stations over most of Michigan, and even more by 100 kW cochannel stations (WLXT, WLDR, WTCM, WKHQ, and WSRT) in Northern Michigan. WMBI, legacy WYCA, and WPPN have the best signals from the Chicago Area in the air and for common DX loggings. Used to be WXRT and WGCI also, but they finally moved to legacy Hancock, and the What You Talking About Willis Tower.

When I lived in Madison, WI I was located at a high point in local terrain and I had a large FM antenna with a rotor on the roof of my home. When pointed toward Chicago, I could typically listen to many of the Chicago FMs 24/7. Signals were often stronger at night through the morning rush hour. However, signals from stations in Muskegon and Grand Rapids, MI were often stronger than the Chicago area stations with less noise and fading. During that era [80s] the most reliable Chicago based signal was WBEZ. The most reliable long distance signal at this location was WIXX in Green Bay, WI.

WIXX really gets out. Here in the Chicago area WIXX could be heard late at night after WKQX signed off at midnight during the 70s & 80s.

I was in Pentwater MI (just down the road from Irons next to the lake) a few years ago and had similar results. The Milwaukee/Green Bay stations were in like locals on my car radio. I'm guessing the lack of Chicago-area signals has to be partially due to distance. From Irons, Google tells me Chicago is ~60 miles further away than Milwaukee.

Also many of the Chicago stations are co-channel to strong Traverse City or Green Bay area stations
