Irony of anti-IBOC posters

It seems my last post on this topic was deemed unacceptable because I do not tow the company line. But I do have a suggestion: break the board into two boards - a pro-IBOC board and an anti-IBOC board. The moderators police it - moving OT posts to the appropriate place - and both sides leave each other alone.

As long as it is one board called HD radio - both pro and con posts are on topic, leading to contentious arguments unworthy of professionals.
An HD Radio discussion board where no discussion is permitted, only promotional hype and favorable fabrications are permitted?
The other board is that way. Boared and full of deceptive self promotion and advertising.

Horse hockey!

The other board (which this board forces to remain nameless) has plenty of discussion pro and con. They just like to keep the discussion to a point to where it does not degrade to the childish name callign that happens here. Some of you that got booted off of it were asked many times to provide real data. You would jsut cause trouble (just like here) just to see your names on a web page. You really dont bring anything constructive to the conversation.

The only self promotion came from the likes of YOU. Promoting YOUR blogs, and mis informed web pages.

I ask you, have you worked with HD Radio? Are you familiar with the technical aspects of HD Radio? (I knwo the answer already... this is a re hash... it just keeps going round and round and round with no true resolution).

Again, I dont care if HD succeeds or not. When it is all said and done I still have a job. But I cannot stand back and have misinformation being spewed out. See that is part of my job as an engineer. To provide the good and the bad so that we as broadcasters can make educated BUSINESS decisions. I am not tilted either way. If I thought that HD Radio was going to be bad for radio, it is my job to say so. I get paid either way. Can you say the same?

I fully concur - it took me a while, to get myself kicked off, but it was amusing. The pro-IBOC moderators get involved in the discussions, to make sure they stay pro-IBOC. Some of the postings are really amusing:

"I'm enjoying HD-2! I've got a blues format on one of my 2's, and comedy on the other. They sound great...not only audio-wise but programming wise. I sure hope that other stations carefully craft their HD-2 programming and not just put a "throwaway" format on.HD-2's (and 3's) have the potential to become killer apps in my (admittedly biased) opinion."

"OK I went two weeks without my HD radio in my car (long story short, I bought a newer car). I finally installed it into my car tonight... and all I have to say is... AHHHH How I missed it!"

And, of course this one is my favorite:

"When I was in New York City yesterday, I went to the RadioShack on 7th avenue between 30th and 31st street, and I asked if they had HD radios. The sales assistant pointed to the Sirius display. I pointed out that Sirius was NOT HD radio! He insisted that it was because it is a "digital high definition radio". Then I said that I heard an ad promoting Z100's HD radio saying that there is no monthly fee. He said that there is a monthly fee for "High Definition satellite radio." I asked him if I could hear Hot 97, KTU, and Z100 on the "HD" radio and he said yes. Then I walked out of the store. I thought my own area was bad. How is the average person supposed to purchase an HD radio in Manhattan!"

I'm gonna take one of my receptor-HS's down to the shack and educate them....they must get it right!

SaynotoIBOC, you have been reported to management for masquerading as, SayNoToIBOC.

And if you don't cut it out next time he'll tell mommy & daddy too and maybe even stomp his feet !! ??? ::)

"The solution will be: Don't listen to AM"

That's already happening. Listeners don't need IBOC to help with that decision. that is why IBOC was invented!

True, but at least in the car I was driving, the IBOC wasn't helping. I used to be able to receive lots of odd AM stations when I visited Chicago. I have to admit the foreign language ones weren't something I like to listen to, but last Monday (Labor Day), I couldn't even receive them. There were only about a half dozen AM's that I could get acceptably well. The "seek" button would actually make the radio stop on the IBOC sidebands of some stations.

Can't we do better than that?
