Was trying to give the new shows on WTOU a listen this morning, and the station was going dead for minutes at a time...maybe pirates have taken over the station (just kidding).

Or gremlins.

It was off the air (carrier noise could still be heard) for quite a long stretch this morning.

Last night at 11:30 it joined the network news in progress and cut away before it was over.

Apparently some technical fine tuning needs to be done.

I thought the top of hour legal ID at midnight was hilarious. To paraphrase, "The govt wants us to say this is WTOU Akron at the top of every hour, but we won't say it."

Reminds me of a station in Cincinnati which flipped to an 80s format in the 90s. Before the call change went through it was "This is NOT WWEZ, Cincinnati, this is your home for the 80s (or something like that) 92.5, the Point. Also not sure if it was WWEZ then, may have flipped calls before that time.

I'm sooooo stealing that! That's great!

Re: 1350 technical gaffes and funny ID

1230am in columbus says "we're not using our government issued call letters because we don't want to say W" not the catchiest, but similar.

Didn't Kiss FM do "This USED to be WKDD Akron, but now we're 96-5 Kiss FM" back before the WAKS calls moved to the frequency from 104.9?

So, Keith...

Has anyone actually called claiming to see an unmarked van with antennas, satellite dishes and government plates on Route 8? And did you indeed shut off 1350 for 5 minutes? (Hey, maybe that's what happened last night!!! :D)

;)

"In case you were wondering, WKDD Akron has moved, the new number is 98.1"...
Actually, if you remember, the WAKS calls were parked at 98.1 for a few weeks.
Chuck Collins whispered a WAKS Canton/Akron in the :50 stopset.

Even still, WTOU technically has never sounded better in the past few years. IIRC, there were all sorts of automation problems and whatnot back in the "1350AM ESPN" phase.

(Most memorable were the replays of Dan Patrick's show in the 4p-7p slot... ;)

I'd give 1350 some time to straighten everything out.

A gold star to whomever came up with that. And WHO says creativity in radio is dead?
