Is 102.3 WUPC off the air?

Heard dead silence on this hispanic religious station for now 3 days. Any idea if this is the new Mime 102.3 just like how 91.9 is, 24/7 of non-stop silence?

They go through periods of dead air from time to time ...
Even when they are on, the audio is very low and under-modulated ...
The programming source, I beleive, is via satellite, so if that is down, there's nothing ...

See, this is where I dont understand how the religious broadcasters get so much money flooding all these frequencies yet half of them are chained and depend on other signals to air their programming. I thought all this time they were independently operated.

The licensee of 102.3 is Radio Alerta, and they are based out of Corona (Queens) NY ...
They are most likely using either a satellite feed or an Internet feed to program 102.3 ...
According to their website, their "affiliates" also include Venezuela and the Dominican Republic ...
Not sure of the reasoning of securing a frequency in "Arrowhead Village", which isn't technically a town, but a section of Brick ...
They list a local address in Lakewood, though I'm not sure what is at that location ...

They used to LMA WLIE 540 AM in Islip, Long Island until they ran out of money.

or an Internet feed to program 102.3

That's how WNSW 1430 in Newark, WXCT 990 in Hartford, WNYG 1440 in Babylon, and WBQN 1160 in Puerto Rico are picking up Radio Cantico Nuevo - another Spanish Language Christian Network. It sounds like crap on 990. And sometimes by some fluke I can pick 1430 and it sounds equally as bad. I don't speak or understand the language so I'm not a listener (then again neither are the families of friends of mine who do speak and understand Spanish), but in passing I've heard on more than one occasion in passing the internet stream getting to die and then I stay tuned and listen for the station to go to dead air.

Is Radio Alerta's programming as bizzare as the programming on Radio Cantico Nuevo? On Radio Cantico Nuevo I've heard a mass in English with every phrase immediately being repeated in Spanish. On another occasion a buddy and I were getting a kick out of a female preacher screaming into the microphone at the top of her lungs without taking breath for 20 straight minutes until we were out of signal range. Both me and my buddy were saying "Calm down lady. You're gonna give yourself a heart attack."

Unfortunately (at least to the residents of the town where WXCT has its tower and is licensed to where the Hispanic Population is virtually non-existent) Radio Cantico Nuevo is the longest lasting format on WXCT in the past last 11 years. May 10th will begin their 4th year LMAing the station. They took over on May 10, 2007.

Note: The comments about WXCT have nothing to do with my supposed obcession with the station, which does not exist. It fits in with the topic at hand. Hispanic Religious Programming polluting the airwaves being run by people who do not care. I'm also comparing the 2 networks. Radio Alerta and Radio Cantico Nuevo.

I don't listen to the station, so I can't comment on the programming itself, however, when I'm going through the dial and come to them, the audio is usually low - meaning you'd have to crank it up a bit to actually hear what's going on ...
I seriously doubt anyone is listening to it ...
And, for the record, they have been on the air since 2003 ...

I happen to test the dial on my Zune HD in Pt. Pleasant Beach yesterday, I did manage to get them while they were on air, but indeed, the volume does have to be turned louder to hear them, and their audio sounds like a 64K internet stream, so maybe this is an internet feed. So we all know they are on Sundays ;D

Thanks for the reports guys.. As the station Engineer I will look into this..
Last time it was off thge transmitter took a Direct lightning hit.
I replaced it and it was sounding Fine.
The Lakewood address is of the Church affiliated with Radio Alerta.
As an LPFM Programming Must origonate from arrowhead village.
So its Fed Via an FTP into a Local PC hard drive. then to air.
I wonder if the PC had a hickup with the weather.

I will check it out.
