Lets call it "Variety 95"
> > Is WDNH CHR-POP?> > > far from it, its like all these stations not really in a> market. look at t102, or 102.5 rfy, they really dont have a> 'top 40' format, its sorta something in between, as what is> going on w/ these 'jackfms'> And that is the moniker it used way back when I first heard it...I guess when it first went on the air.(cool beans: I have the original studio versions of those jingles too).Anyway, WDNH, up until about1994 under the direction of Ed Histed and Pete Ward, was a true variety station. In the mid 90's, the station took a decidedly different direction, going more rock-top40..in other words, we played the best of the top 40 IF it was rock oriented. We HAD to include the top pop hits; Macarena comes to mind-a song none of us really liked. We even played a little rap!..the one that comes to mind was a Coolio record, which was pretty mainstream.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~It has been my very unpopular opinion that WDNH has been "very jack"...that is, a format that is "what I want to play". It's ok, but it is hard to target. (my personal opinion is that I like that type of format, but we won't go there). It is typically hard to sell, but deWit has had no problem selling it; it is the dominant station in Wayne County right now, and has all the locals on the air, so ya can't fault it at all.More on topic is their other stations: WYCY is totally oldies; very well done, WPCN 1590 is targeted even older with doowops included,(and that my dears is exactly what I would have liked to do with it, had it been my decision) and WDNB is AP news (that is, until that service drops in July...then what?).I have an affection for what we were doing with WDNH in the 90's..it was different from anyone else, but now, WDNH is still different from anyone else. It is not my personal fave now, but it is still pretty well done, if you consider it really is a jack format and has been.Carl<P ID="signature">______________
