Is 96rock in jeopardy?

96rock is doing a listener appreciation day beginning Thursday Nov 3 at 10am. From what I can tell, I think it is a you say we play kind of thing. I don't know how true this is, but Southside and Rhodes keep telling listeners that 96rock is in jeopardy of being another casualty of the Atlanta radio woes and maybe flopping formats and they are soliticing listener input whether good or bad. Just wondering if it is a publicity stunt?

For as big of a stunt they're trying to pull, they might as well bring in Robbie Knievel to jump over all of thier station vehicles on his super motorcycle. =)

This is NOT a stunt... I have a consultant friend that told me that 96 plans on doing a research test on whether or not CC should flip 96rock.

i doubt it, it's a clear channel thing actually, 106-1 TAK did it over here back in March, 105-9 The Rock in Nashville has done it twice this year. Just a publicity stunt I suppose.
______________

That does seem possible, but i doubt it would actually flip, back when TAK ran it over here there was a rumor that clear channel could possibly be moving 100.3 WLAY into Huntsville from Muscle Shoals and would not be able to keep it's country format since they already owh huntsvilles only country station, and they could have been running the listener appreciation day to find a format for the new move in, but that never happened and most likely never will since cc sold 100.3
______________

Well if so, than what format? The only one that makes sense to me would be a Sports talker. Considering that the 96Rock already has the Braves games. WCNN and WQXI wouldn't have a chance since the signal would be much better for areas outside the Perimeter.

Or how about scrapping WGST on AM and moving it all to FM. I can bet that they will have better ratings on FM than on AM with their sucky signal. Then do Real Oldies on WGST AM (Steve Nichols has plenty of Oldies experience from his days at Lake 102! Man I'd love to see him doing that again. I missed him so much when he left WLKQ)

Just a few ideas.
______________

That excuse doesn't work in this market. ABC owns both WKHX and WYAY and they are both Country stations.
______________

> >I would agree with your ideas... Wgst plays music again.. yup good idea, but hold those horses, Steve Nichols? What? There are real jocks in the metro atlanta area, Like all the out of work jocks, who were at cool 105.7, and fox 97. Steve when he was a Lake 102.3 was to at least me and my friends, rude on the phones when you called for a request and for some reason when you met him
in person you felt like you were a bother. I still add, so many real talents out there, but your idea of Gst playing music again, what a idea.

If there were any chance of 96Rock becoming something else, I'd have to put my money on FM Talk. I know Clar Channel tried that already, but there's new management over there now. Talk on 96.1 would also be a pre-emptive strike against Free-FM on 92.9 if Dave doesn't continue to grow. Regular Guys stay put, Limbaugh segues over and something live and local goes in PM drive and evenings.

But I really don't think 96Rock is going anywhere anytime soon.

Maybe I was young and ignorant but he seemed like a very nice guy to me. I called him every afternoon during his show. He even was nice enough to come over to my house to be interviewed for a school project I was working on in 10th Grade. I was real sad when he left. I probably could call him while he is working on the weekends at WGST doing the news but I am sure he is busy and I don't want to be a distraction to him or his work. But thanks for the compliment on the WGST music idea.
______________

I think this is just a stunt. They just hired a new guy as program director with experience in growing rock stations ratings? Is that not correct? I think he is trying to get a feel for the market and generate interest among listener to keep tuning in and see how we change.

Yet there is no other classic rock, even rock station in atlanta. Sure, they play the same 13 songs day after day, but after they really in that much trouble? What were the rating like in the last book?

The ratings have seen better days but are not that bad. A format change would more likely based on revenue potential of the current classic based rock format in relation to whatever new format they chose. Just follow the money and while ratings often translates to revenue certain formats do not bill what their ratings show.
