Is an Atlanta "Legend" coming back...or it this just nothing?

I have no clue why...but 967TheLegend.com has stopped redirecting to 949TheBull.com and now is live with the updated Clear Channel/iHeartRadio "look"...

Really interesting. If you recall, when 94.9 switched to "Grinch Radio" Country music in the middle of Christmas...Light AC was picked up by South Atlanta CC signal 96.7 FM. That format was replaced by "The Legend" which was like 106.7 The Eagle but played slightly older music. Then it went into simulcast mode with North Atlanta counterpart WWVA.
 
Maybe to steal listeners from older skewing Kicks?

I'm going with the often-repeated theory that WILD is doomed. The Holiday 2012 Book says it all... a 1.9 12+. I'm not sure about the 18-34, but it can't be too good for Wild. I honestly can't see WILD lasting through the year.

I believe that 96.7 will return to "The Legend", and 105.7 will return to a new format. Since 96.7 is usually a no-show in the ratings, and most Classic Country stations run off of the iHeartRadio platform, 96.7 would be relatively inexpensive to operate.

Either that, or Clear Channel is pulling our legs with a prank.
 
My info at Clear Channel Atlanta is a little sketchy at best...but, someone over there told me that "Atlanta is about to have a lot more country." Also, I just heard a WiLD DJ only say "Wild 105.7" and left out the 96.7 part. Should I be considering a "Flip Watch"...I'm not sure.

The site is also filling out....just doesn't mention a city. Content is country music featuring Randy Houser ("How Country Feels") and Jewel. Dave Taft is the single on-air staff mentioned (iHeartRadio Classic Country morning drive host).
 
Putting some kind of country on 96.7 would not exactly be giving Atlanta a lot more country. It would be giving a small coverage area south of Atlanta a lot more country.

In November, Wild had fallen from 5th to 9th 18-34...Wild has definitely seen better days.
Wild is definitely ripe for a format change, but this "Legend" would be incredibly disappointing. CC has the perfect opportunity to flip this to Classic or Adult Hits and is settling for another country station? Wow, the format changes over the past few weeks have been pretty boring.

I think that 105.7 and 96.7 will split. 96.7 would not generate a lot of revenue or ratings due to the poor signal, so CC would probably operate that signal on the cheap. WWVA would probably get a classic/adult hits format, due to the stronger signal. WWLG would probably join back in a year if the format on WWVA is successful enough.

CC already had 5 1/2 months to redirect listeners to Power. Something's gonna give soon.
 
96.7 has to be a format that adds to something already on a stronger signal. Classic country would complement The Bull. Any additional listeners picked up by 96.7--which would be very few--could then be added to The Bull's numbers for media buys.

The only way 96.7 would have a chance of standing on its own is if it became a Peachtree City/Tyrone/Newnan station, but that would be tough since people living there mainly listen to Atlanta radio.

Ratings just came out, and WWVA is still at a 1.9 12+. I don't think the ratings for WWVA are going any higher. May as well start a flip watch for 105.7 and 96.7. I say friday at latest.
 
This really upsets me! I wish cc would've put wild on 96.1 I loved the wild format back then and love it today too. What a major disappointment for me :(

Everybody was expecting WILD to go to 96.1 and swap places with Project. Instead, ClearChannel Atlanta decided to launch a totally different station on 96.1 while still keeping WILD, and WILD's ratings have suffered drastically as a result.

As it stands, Power is just outside the top 10. If WILD were to be absorbed into Power, Power would hit the top 10 due to the audience gained by WILD.

Judging by POWER's Facebook page many ATLiens hate Clear Channel for killing 96 Rock/Project 96.1 :D

Yup, they had a strong social media movement too. They have like 3 main facebook pages to bring back WKLS. All with 10000 plus "likes." Last I heard, the fans were going to start up another station that supports local rock acts aswell, along with an app so you can listen in the car.

Clear Channel could not care less if people are putting up pages on Facebook or crying about their loss on the Power page. With Power getting significantly better ratings than Project since it's FIRST BOOK as Power, I'd say this gamble was well worth it. Besides, you'll find partisans who strike social media after any format flip. Heck, even the failed "FM News" experiments in NY and Chicago had disgruntled fans commenting about their dislike in the formats which replaced them.
If Wild listeners are angry at CC for flipping Wild and won't support Power, I see the majority of those fans going to V and maybe a few to Q. But I think flipping Wild needs to happen since it's cannibalizing Power's ratings/revenue.
 
Just saying; WILD seems to have added a few more urban-ish tracks to it's playlist as of today. Still rhythmic pop heavy. CC Throwing us off, or trying in vain to fix the ratings? I pick the former.
 
BIG NEWS!!!!

Peach 96.5 in Macon, which holds the WPCH call letters, flipped to Country at midnight. This COULD lead to CC doing something with the WPCH call letters, possibly moving them to Atlanta.

WILD is now on borrowed time. I give it until Easter, at the very latest. More likely, there could be a flip within the next two weeks.

Or, again, Clear Channel is teasing us.
